Summary/Abstract: Digital technologies and social media networks have increased the research potential of investigative journalism. However, even before the outbreak of the military invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February 2022, it was clear that modern online tools can be used for both accurate reporting and disinformation campaigns. This paper outlines the investigative methods used by selected media to cover developments in the war in Ukraine, verify online content to confront the war propaganda, and track persons and companies on the list of international sanctions against Russia. We point to the new possibilities of using investigative methods as part of war reporting and argue that a combination of traditional and modern methods of investigation has proved most effective to provide evidence-based results.
