Summary/Abstract: Persons who find themselves in the situation of being long-term unemployed are faced not only with the poor financial situation usually associated with the loss of an employment position but also a range of negative emotional influences which, today, are often overlooked - society, a person's surroundings, the individual him/herself. However, when unemployment becomes a long-term problem (in the order of months to years), the psychological and emotional impacts become particularly negative. Moreover, the persistence of the effects of economic crises also leads to extensive job cuts, redundancies and a severe lack of new employment positions. This, naturally, exerts a detrimental effect on the everyday financial situation of those affected. Long-term unemployment is unpleasant for all - individuals, families, businesses and the state. The number of those out of work for more than one year is increasing worldwide. Indeed, all the national governments of OECD member countries are struggling with the issue of long-term unemployment; hence, the reduction of this phenomenon has become one of the most urgent economic priorities. Developments in recent years have shown that 20% of those who lose their jobs become long-term unemployed. The Czech Republic has witnessed one of the most significant declines in long-term unemployment of any of the OECD countries in recent years.
