Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this article is to introduce the readers to the connections between Szczecin and France and to observe how the memory of French presence influences over the centuries in economic, institutional and cultural activities the formation of collective memory and identity of habitants, and their interest in French culture today. The article presents a synthetic outline of history of Szczecin and its connections to France, as well as presenting monuments of material, literary and artistic culture, which bear witness to the lasting connections of our region with France. This article is also a proposal for potential readers to get acquainted with French culture existing in the area, which traditionally, due to its geographical location, is historically connected with the Germanspeaking cultural circle.
