Summary/Abstract: The right to difference constitutes in Western legal systems the main instrument for supporting equality in the exercise of rights, as can be seen about the wearing of religious symbols. The paper examines the relevance of religious identity in contemporary multicultural societies, where the believer’s religious belonging comes across the multifarious spheres of social life. In light of this, the essay also intends to analyse the relationship between religious and cultural identity in pluralistic societies.
