Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on the introduction of Roman sculpture in Thracian sanctuaries which carried on religious traditions from pre-Roman times into the Roman period. I discuss as case studies two sanctuaries from Thrace – Babyak and Krepost – which offer evidence on transformation of ritual and on the use of sculptural imagery in it. The paper comments on the influence of the foreign Roman/ Graeco-Roman art and culture on local Thracian society.
