Keywords: grammatical gender of the verb; neuter gender of the verb; forms of the 1st and 2nd persons of the past tense; non-binary forms of the verb; neutral forms of the verb

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to neuter forms of the verb of the 1st and 2nd person singular in the past tense (as well as the so-called future complex tense and conditional mood). Its purpose was to investigate whether these forms are presented in Polish language textbooks and grammars of the Polish language (for foreigners). It turns out that these forms are ignored in publications for foreigners, as well as in Polish grammars, and the position of linguists towards them is not unequivocal. The author is of the opinion that g a full presentation of generic verb forms in textbooks for learning Polish as L2 (as well as in grammars) should be introduced, primarily because of the existence of systemic conjugation patterns of the past tense (future compound and conditional) also in terms of grammatical gender. She also draws attention to the growing interest in the neuter gender forms and the possibility of using them in relation to and by non-binary persons.
