Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the place names of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the first part the autor analyse homonyms in Bosnian oikonymy. The paper highlights 360 oikonyms that have two or more occurrences in different localities, and highlights the problems it causes in communication and orientation. In the second part points to the problem of synonymy – to the fact that there are several names for the same ojkonym in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is a consequence of renaming in its oikonymy. The third part of the paper consists the analysis of reasons and types of renaming. Contextually, paper emphasizes the need for a contemporary monographic presentation of place names in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
