Summary/Abstract: In accordance with his literary, linguistic, pedagogical, astronomical and other pursuits, Alexandru Lupeanu-Melin made an essential contribution to the restoration of some representative values of the Romanian popular creation, towards which he showed a sincere appreciation throughout his live. Being considered a popular writer, Alexandru Lupeanu-Melin sees folklore as the faithful mirror of the life of the peasant masses, the depository of their thoughts and aspirations. Lupeanu was part of the management committee of the first folklore magazine in Transylvania, published in Blaj between 1923 and 1927, entitled “Treasure of Villages”. Alexandru Lupeanu-Melin’s folklore collections, preserved in manuscript form at the County Directorate of the National Archives in Cluj, are of great importance for the understanding of his contribution and of the folklore specific to the area he explored in the heart of Transylvania. These collections, studied by connoisseurs in the field, can make significant contributions to the popularization of folk traditions from the Tarnave area, which are remarkable especially due to their originality. In order to make known the Romanian folk art from Tarnave, Alexandru Lupeanu-Melin, together with Traian German, started, in 1923, an interesting action to establish a Tarnave Museum in Blaj.
