Summary/Abstract: In the present work, we analyze the role of the German language in Romania, its propagation and its usage. We also wanted to find out on the basis of the questionnaires, the situations in which the students really need the German language and in what contexts they use it as a means of communication. In the last decade, the acquisition of German language increased in our country. This is in part a consequence of the economic boom in Germany. Before and after Romania’s admission in the European Union the number of pupils and students who study the German language, both in primary school, as well as in other classes, in universities and language centers increased. Although the English language is regarded as a universal means of communication, the number of German speakers is rising.
