Summary/Abstract: Our goal is to clarify the maturity of the child to go to school, and primarily to determine this and similar terms that indicate the readiness of preschool children to go to school. It is known that primary school is compulsory, and the Law on Primary Education considers a child who turns five and a half years of age by March 1 of the current year to be a school obligor. The school places certain demands on each child, which undoubtedly makes the environment, and how he will cope in that environment depends on his maturity. Given the diversity of children's psychophysical development, the aforementioned chronological age cannot be the only and reliable way to measure the maturity of future students. Maturity implies a wide range of factors that affect it, and which will be discussed in further elaboration. We will look at the research of experts as well as their ways of assessing the maturity of children before starting school. Objectively present the characteristics of preschoolers, and all the elements that are subject to evaluation by the teams that deal with it. It is necessary to point out the importance of preparing a child from early childhood and the role of the family and the environment, especially preschool institutions, should be observed.
