Summary/Abstract: This article is focusing on my experience during and after viewing an Anselm Kiefer book exhibit at the National Library of France in 2016. Starting with reflections on modern art, the author is analyzing the work of Kiefer as part of a direction in contemporary painting that emphasizes the importance of books in our culture by literally creating huge objects that are later on displayed for the audience. Shifting to another direction, in performing arts, the author is preoccupied with identifying common denominators with the work of Ivo van Hove: recovering the experience of human touch for contemporary art and also creating dialogue with the audiences.
