Summary/Abstract: In this conference, Professor George Banu discusses how the certain spirit of a specific place can influence theatre and performing arts. Greek theatre, Elizabethan theatre and théâtre à l’italienne are the main concepts he refers to and he is constantly preoccupied by how the audience will find its place in such a context. In the same time, the author is focusing on the direct connection between nature and theatre, as he considers this has a huge impact on the venues and on the audience. George Banu considers that some European cities have certain key places that are apparently inappropriate for plays, but they turned out to be true artistic hotspots: Paris (La Cartoucherie and Bouffes du Nord) and Sibiu (The Culture Factory).
