Summary/Abstract: Born on January 14, 1942, in Gödöllő, Carol Paul Karácsonyi attended the Faculty of Biology-Geography, at the “Babeş-Bolyai” University of Cluj-Napoca, Class of 1964. In 1964–1969, he was a librarian at the Pedagogical Institute of Baia Mare and a teacher at the Petreşti General School; in 1969–1988 he was a museographer. He organized the permanent exhibition of Natural Sciences (at the Carei Museum) and laid the foundations of the Museum’s scientific collections. He described new taxa in the Romanian flora and new plant associations for science, organ ized and led the restoration works of the dendrological park in Carei, prepared the scientific documentation for the creation of new nature reserves in north-western Romania, participated in the elaboration of important ecological studies – over a hundred scientific papers and 21 books. In 2011, he obtained the title of Doctor in Biology, at the “Vasile Goldiş” Western University of Arad. He was a traveller on six continents, professional photographer, member of the National Geographic Society. He was awarded The “Emanoil Teodorescu” Award of the Romanian Academy in 1997 and the “Pro Urbe” Award of the Carei Municipality in 2010.
