Summary/Abstract: The Cold War, not a military conflict in the full sense of the word, was a prolonged and significant confrontation of two political systems which has inevitably left its mark on the development of theatre art mostly in the countries of the Eastern Bloc and specifically Bulgaria. For Bulgarian theatrе, the year 1968 was pivotal and, indeed, a borderline for the time of communism and theatrical development. Scenographic processes were too influences by the political events and processes. Only a year before the bloody suppression of the Prague Spring, the beginning was put to the Prague Quadrennial that has the ambitions mission to collect in one place the achievements of scenographers from all over the world. In 1967, the city welcomes delegations from both the Eastern Bloc and all continents of the world irrespectively of whether they were part of the capitalist or of the socialist world. The article analyses the influence and importance of the Quadrennial for the “jumping” of aesthetic conceptions over the Iron Curtain.
