The Regress of Ethnicity and Its Linguistic Manifestations

Summary/Abstract: In individual national Slavic branches of linguistics, as well as in ethnological and sociological disciplines, empirical and theoretical reflection of processes adherent to the dynamism of ethnicity and speech processes related to the dynamism has undoubtedly taken place. Nevertheless, it has been carried out in ways that vary both theoretically and methodologically. Attention has been paid predominantly to processes linked with former migration, especially emigration. The study tries to point out the existence of the whole complex of processes pertaining to the dynamism of ethnicity in contemporary Slavic world, mention less striking relations and mechanisms that have not been studied thoroughly so far. If we want to monitor the issue of ethnicity dynamism in present-day Slavic ethnic communities it is necessary to start with the study of processes and tendencies in the political and ideological area. We must remember that both activities negating the sense of ethnicity and counteractive proceeding can result in the recession of ethnicity.
