Summary/Abstract: In the context of year 2021, proclaimed by the Romanian Patriarchate as Solemn Year dedicated to the pastoral care for Romanians abroad and Commemorative Year of the reposed in the Lord, as well as the liturgical and cultural significance of cemeteries, with the blessing of His Grace Sofronie, Bishop of Oradea, the Faculty of Orthodox Theology ,,Bishop Dr. Vasile Coman” – the University of Oradea, organized on 8-9 June 2021, the International Symposium „Pastoral care and mission in the Romanian diaspora – challenges and perspectives. The Orthodox Church’s care for the reposed, expressed in its consecrated hierurgies” .The international symposium’s proceedings were conducted online, via ZOOM video conferencing platform, and were preceded by a Te Deum service, celebrated in the church within the University campus, dedicated to „The Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel” of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology ,,Bishop Dr. Vasile Coman”. The symposium was attended by members of Faculties of Orthodox Theology in Romania: Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Arad, Alba-Iulia, as well as other guests with experience in the field of pastoral-missionary work, from Othodox parishes abroad: Italy, Great Britain, Ireland, Switzerland and the USA.The speakers addressed aspects in the life of the Orthodox communities in the diaspora, revealing the fact that pastoral work conducted in diaspora is a highly complex, complicated and sensitive phenomenon, facing the challenges posed by the cultural, social, ethnic and multireligious environment. Also, the contributors presented works centered on the ,,Orthodox Church’s care for the reposed in the Lord”.
