Summary/Abstract: This paper explores the intonational features of declarative questions in English and Montenegrin. The material used in this study involves the English and Montenegrin TV talk shows. Our research is based on the hypothesis that intonation plays an important role in identifying and distinguishing between a declarative statement and declarative interrogative structure. Our aim is to determine whether there are some similarities between the English and Montenegrin declarative questions regarding the type of the final intonational contour. For this purpose, we used the theoretical model of Autosegmental – Metrical Phonology in combination with Praat, a computer program for the thorough instrumental analysis of speech. The results of the study imply a partial verification of our hypothesis.
