Summary/Abstract: Within the semiotics of space, the cave is a remarkable semiotic style unit because it makes the surrounding space unusual. Its semiotic stylogeny is particularly vivid within environments where Muhammad s. a. w. s. was born and where he existed, since such environments are dominated by flatness, such areas are characterised by openness and optimal lighting. By the principle of heavy contrasting, cave emphasises isolation, closure, unlit and unenlightened features. However, the Prophet received the first words of the Revelation within the cave of Hira, which in itself represents the enlightenment of the world, which is planetary and transhistorical, optimally positive. In such a way, the cave within the semiotics of space was additionally made unusual in a godly manner and was fashioned through stylistic potential. Lastly, it is one of the many ways in which Islam manages to make positive even that which appears irreversibly negative. In that sense, the cave of Hira – as a space wherein the Word of Recognition flashed – was contrasted to Plato’s own understanding of the cave as an allegory, or as a complex metaphor.
