Summary/Abstract: The article makes an analysis on evolutions in the Balkans, the impact of the crisis in Ukraine and Russia’s actions for the security, stability and development of the Balkan region; escalating tensions and competition among Russia and West to gain influence in the Balkans led the weak local governments to balance among competing actors. Even though the Western Balkans countries maintain a deep desire to join the EU, uncertainty remains over the future of this region.
