Summary/Abstract: The article reveals the Bulgarian presence in Czechoslovakia (CSR) immediately after World War II. A Bulgarian colony of many thousands lived and worked in that country. Its strength, geographic distribution and socio-professional structure are shown: market-gardeners who contributed to the development of vegetable growing and the supply of the local market with vegetable products; farm and industrial workers, university studies and intellectuals. Bulgarian schools were opened in the big Czechoslovak towns. Large and strong organizations uniting the majority of the Bulgarian living and working in the CSR were set up. The overwhelming majority of the Bulgarians retained their Bulgarian citizenship although they had settled for good in Czechoslovakia. Light is shed on the relations between Bulgaria and Czechoslovakia connected with the Bulgarian presence and role in the economic life of the CSR.
