Summary/Abstract: In this study, the process of membership to the formations that are described as new religious movements (NRM’s) and the rituals and practices for membership are examined. New religious movements, which come to the forefront with a charismatic leader with absolute authority and gathering around a certain ideology, are trying to take their place by challenging traditional religious understandings and institutions. In this respect, it is seen that these movements have been questioned from different aspects and the subject of various studies. One of the questioned and curious aspects of the NRM’s is undoubtedly related to the participation processes of people in such groups. An important part of the NRM’s include some rituals, practices, and symbols while incorporating newly acquired members into the group. Some NRM’s adopt and practice the ritual of the traditional religion they originated from or influenced by the same or with some variation, as in the practice of baptism. On the other hand, some movements realize their participation in the group with rituals or ceremonies that have their own characteristics. It is also remarkable that some movements attach great importance to beliefs and practices in this direction.
