Summary/Abstract: In August 2020 there has been 75 years since the first nuclear strike in Hiroshima opened up the nuclear arms race. It has been a period of both turbulences and stability, the paradox being that the world has been safer because of the nuclear weapons. Their formidable deterrence capacity remains unchallenged so far, while the technological and scientific progress expanded the number of the Nuclear Powers world-wide. NATO as an Alliance, remains a nuclear alliance, as long as nuclear weapons will continue to exist, and is keeping it’s deterring capacity with a mix of capabilities. Of course, there is also a strong connection between the immense destruction capacity of the nuclear weapons and the irreversible damages done to the natural balance and climate on the Planet Earth.
