Summary/Abstract: Nicolai Grămadă represents for Bukovina what Bukovina represents for Romania -a part of a whole and a landmark. Born at a time when the notion of belonging to the nation was crossing a dividing line, Nicolai Grămadă began his intellectual training in Romanian and subordinated it to the historical interest through his specializations in auxiliary sciences of history. From the moment he enlisted as a volunteer in the Romanian army in 1916 and until his death, which occurred in 1961, he made efforts, in different contexts and situations, to promote the Romanian values in general and those of Bukovina in particular.
