Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyse the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in the context of the international security environment. It discusses the evolution of Russian-Ukrainian relations from the collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics to the current threats of open war by the Russian Federation. The article analyses the Russian-Ukrainian conflict from the perspective of actions taken by Western countries, as well as interprets the Russian blackmail to use force against Ukraine as an element of pressure on the international security environment and an instrument for achieving Russian strategic foreign policy goals.
