Summary/Abstract: The author gives an overview of the hodonymy of Montenegro, as well as their motivation. Hodonyms (names of streets, squares, and bridges) are important elements of the identity of every city and settlement because they preserve traces of historical development, social change, the culture of memory, language layers, and overall development of civilization.Hodonyms are not just landmarks in one settlement or city, although we keep in mind that this is their primary function. They are also cultural monuments of one area – the names by which a city is recognized. As bearers of certain symbols, walkers represent various social, political and cultural images, as well as spatial landmarks. Hodonyms in the settlements of Montenegroare also related to certain important personalities and events from the Second World War: partisan commanders, national heroes, partisan champions, brigades, divisions, important battles, etc.
