Summary/Abstract: The Organization of Turkic States, formerly the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States - Turkic Council, was established in 2009 as an international organization with the aim of promoting broad cooperation among Turkic States. During the 2009 Summit, the Nakhchivan Agreement on the Establishment of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States was signed by Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The Agreement, ratified by Turkey, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, entered into force on 17 November 2010. The Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking Countries, which was decided to be established with the Nakhchivan Agreement at the 2010 Summit, was implemented. While the founding members of the Organization were Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey, Uzbekistan joined the Organization as a full member in October 2019. Hungary gained observer status in 2018 and Turkmenistan in 2021.With the 8th Summit held in Istanbul in 2021, the platform was named the "Organization of Turkish States". The main purpose of the Organization is to contribute to regional and global peace and stability while deepening cooperation, and to evaluate the special solidarity brought about by the common identity, culture and language unity among the member states.
