Summary/Abstract: The traditional mission of the Academy, which was reflected in building and disseminating knowledge aimed at breeding, training and upbringing the most important resource of the society – people, today is facing the challenges of adaptation dictated by global changes in the labor market. The traditional model of the university gradually metamorphoses into a corporate model, which, with numerous solutions, also carries certain problems. The aim of this paper is to draw attention to some of these problems, primarily pointing to the possible consequences of perceived (non)justified and (not)meaningful changes in the organization of work and the role of the university. In this context, perception of psychological contract breach by university, job satisfaction, organizational commitment and job involvement of acedemics will be particulary discussed. A special focus will be on highlighting the role of the leadership of the university / faculty / academy in raising the level of receptivity of academic staff for such changes, with particular emphasis on the argument of responsible and competent management of change. This argument is based on a scientifically founded understanding that for the success of introducing any changes in the organization, and so at the university, it is especially important to ensure that employees understand the purpose of such a change, accept its necessity, and in the academic context specifically retain the confidence in the management’s intention to persevere in protecting the traditional values of the academy, its autonomy and dignity in society. It is to be expected that in this circumstance only perceived change from the traditional role of a university in a corporate, business-oriented role will not be negatively connotated, but accepted as meaningful and necessary.
