Hronica românilor - The Reclaim of a Destiny: Manuscripts and Editors During the XIXth and the XXth Centuries

Summary/Abstract: The meaning of this study is to continue the researches concerning the attempts of publishing Şincai’ s work, Hronica românilor; the new research is based on the manuscripts, both original and copies, that were used in the process of editing Şincai’ s book, during the XIXth and the XXth centuries. Those researches have corrected some aspects connected to a better understanding of this matter and they will also represent a new starting pointfor the future researches. Considering its magnitude, both as a manner of presentation and content, we have to include Hronica românilor in the category of those scientific works whose influence upon the education of the XIXth century generations cannot be denied; it also had a great influence upon the development of historical writing. According to all these facts, we consider that the reopening of Şincai’ s file to be connected to the new directions of Romanian historiography, whose purpose is to reveal the most important aspects of national culture and identity during the XVIIIth century.
