Summary/Abstract: The interest upon the literature for youth and children is quite understandable, because we all accept today the fact that literature is close connected to education. At the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century, Romanian culture was enriched with a large variety of texts, tranlated from the universal cultural patrimony. The importance of the book was in fact emphasized by all Romanian scholars; they considered that translating is one of the best ways of enriching national language. There were some attempts in order to organize certain series of books, containing the most famous universal writings, such as Robinson Crusoe, Gulliver’ s Travels, Fenelon and so on. Among all those Romanian scholars who tried to lay the foundation of some series we may mention I. D. Negulici, Grigore Pleşoianu and many others. Probably the most prolific one was I. M. Râureanu (1831 - 1904). He began his activity in 1867 with a collection of papers, who’ s importance consists in the moral advices they promoted. Râureanu’ s goal was to contribute to young and children moral education; he tried to convince them about the necessity of being responsible for their families, for their communities and for their countries. He considered an adequate education and lecture as being the most important elements in a positive evolution. Râureanu became famous for his initiatives; his collections were well organized, according to some criteria, such as the age of the readers and level of knowledge; in the same way, we may mention the fact that he tried to together different literary genres: short stories, biographies, anecdotes aso. Râureanu influenced many other initiatives of this kind, the most appreciated being the work of Adelina Maior - Tăslăuanu and latter we may mention the attempts of Octavian Tăslăuanu and Vasile Stan; but this kind of initiatives were still appreciated after 1918
