Summary/Abstract: Our study finds its motivation in the fact that imagological studies undertaken from Romanian perspective have neglected the chronics from the 18th century when they thought of reflecting The Others - and especially the German’ s image - as represented by our people. The main reason is perhaps the lack of a definite national identity, the process being at that time at its beginning. As we prove, starting from ethimological consideration, ethnonims regarding the Germans ethnic’ s image demonstrates a lack of certitude about the way the Other was identified. After a thorough reading, we discerned between two meanings of the words german, neamt, sas, ethnonims usually used nowadays as synonyms. Thus, we have noticed an association of the german with the Catholics and with the dynasty of Habsburg, that of neamţ designating in a very common manner encountered to all the Slavonic people, the foreigner or the barbarian, while the term sas was used without stressing their alogentity in Transylvania, but mainly by making evident their particularity in the Transylvanian historic context.
