Summary/Abstract: Worldwide, the most common reason for emergency surgery, remains the acute appendicitis. The frequency for this type of conditions in Europe reaches 8%. From the data we retrieve from NSI ( National Statistical Institute), for the year 2018 in Bulgaria there were 5195 appendectomies performed. Nowadays the minimally invasive methods are becoming first choice for treating this kind of conditions. The objective of our paper is to analyze the contemporary methods of diagnostics and treatment of the acute appendicitis. We examined and analyzed retrospectively all the patients that were diagnosed and operated for acute appendicitis in the Surgical Department of UMHAT ― Eurohospital Plovdiv‖ for the period January 2013 to December 2019. For the reffered period we operated 119 patients with inflammation of the appendix. We approached minimally invasive in 87 of the cases. In 47 of the patients we found complicated forms of acute appendicitis In the modern surgery the laparoscopic surgery is becoming the right choice for treating a variety of conditions. Long ago has been proven the accuracy of this method of the diagnostics for acute abdomen. Analogous, the laparoscopic appendectomies appear to be main technique of treating uncomplicated forms of the condition. With the progression of the learning curve, minimally invasive operations could be performed for complicated forms too.
