Summary/Abstract: During the period of 1797 to 1799 Herbart is a private teacher in Switzerland. Through his friends and classmates he visited Pestalozzi at Burgdorf. After this meeting follows a two-year research on the scientific basis and practical value of Pestalozzi’s “method”, this also finds expression in Herbart’s first pedagogical works.
