Summary/Abstract: The Illuminist print Cheia preteşugului („The Key of Friendship”), published in 1815 at Buda, is a truly unique book. The only existing copy can be found in Bucharest, at the General Directorate of State Archives Library. The author is Gheorghe Munteanu, who was a teacher at the Romanian National School in Pesta. He was a man of his time and he attempted to be a part of the general effort to educate and shape the personality of the youth, an essential theme being that of friendship. In his poem, Gheorghe Munteanu emphasized the importance of friendship, seen as a form of national and social solidarity. He insisted upon the necessity of carefully choosing friends and he also marked the difference between the true friendship of God, who is always there for us, and the friendship of the human being, who cannot be trusted.
