Summary/Abstract: In the last decade, in connection with the curricular reform of primary and secondary education, there is an increased demand from schools for good quality accessible textbooks, and for increased transparency in assessing their quality. The article presents the methodology and the finding of a survey focused on teachers‘ contentment with the quality of textbooks for reading certified by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic. The total of 533 teachers from a representative sample of primary schools with Slovak language as the language of instruction participated in the evaluation of textbooks via electronic evaluation form and indicated predominantly high satisfaction with the evaluated textbooks. Teachers were most satisfied with the illustrations, ergonomic features of the textbook and with the varied selection of texts. They were least satisfied with the oversized content and the excessive length of some articles. The comments they made were presented to the teams of authors. The study also provides their response. At a time when experimental verification of textbooks is in decline, and, at the same time, the market for textbooks is opening up, our study seeks to bring knowledge about the introduction of teaching aids into teaching practice by teachers, authors, publishers and researchers in the field of the development and evaluation of teaching aids.
