Summary/Abstract: One of the basic research problems concerning social entrepreneurship is the lack of a clear definition of social entrepreneurship. This problem is also noticeable in Poland, where this concept is explained in relation to the concept of social economy, the third sector or treated as a metaphor for innovative activities undertaken by various groups and entities. The aim of the article is to explain the meaning of the term “social entrepreneurship” using a process approach. The method of analysis and synthesis of the literature on the subject was used to achieve the goal. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the process approach to social entrepreneurship is a useful analytical perspective for understanding the core of the activity combining social objectives with market methods, as well as for learning about the course of the entrepreneurial process at the micro level. At the same time, there is a conclusion that it is necessary to popularise empirical and theoretical research in Poland with the use of a process approach, especially in the context of the lack of a legal definition of social enterprise and initial arrangements in this area.
