Summary/Abstract: This article juxtaposes the techniques of questioning the Self in the essayistic work of the 20th century philosophical writers Paul Valéry and Marguerite Yourcenar. This symmetrical approach is intended to highlight the two distinct patterns – which convey the method of the “intellectual eye” and the method of the “open-eyes” – the insightful aspects of the deep human nature analysis. The study establishes that the Valéry and Yourcenar’s quest of the Self converges into the poetics of the mental eye. In this respect, the article emphasizes the dual, double, two-folded techniques of revealing the mind and what is considered the profound human being.
