Summary/Abstract: There are many Romanian soldiers, without high ranks, whose names don’t appear in history books, but who honored their country in battle. This is the case of sergeant Riza Petre, from the 1st Calarasi Regiment (Cavalry), Lugoj, Caracal. We know about him that he fought for 263 days, from the 23rd of August 1944 until the 12th of May 1945. He took part in the battles of Timisoara, as far as Budapest and from there to Czechoslovakia. His 23 pages long memoirs are at the Museum of National History and Archaeology in Constanta.
