Summary/Abstract: This article describes culture as understood by Joseph Ratzinger(Benedict XVI). Although the work of this theologian has been discussed extensively, especially from the theological and philosophical perspective, the topic of culture has not so far been considered in a wider context. The main purpose of this article is to introduce Ratzinger’s theory of culture. It presents the three most important subjects which form the core of this theory:man, community and the relationship between faith and reason. Additionally, the article presents a short account of the source of the crisis of culture called by Ratzinger cultural relativism, which also has a strong impact on the three mentioned issues. This article is an analysis of Ratzinger’s most important works from a cultural studies perspective: Truth and Tolerance – Christian Belief and World Religions, Introduction to Christianity and Europe in the Crisis of Cultures.
