Summary/Abstract: Blessed Dorothy of Great Montau (1347–1394) was one of the greatest penitents of medieval and modern Europe. Expiatory penance is an essential method of carrying out her charism. As analysis of the sources mentioned in the article shows, Dorothy’s penance includes, inter alia, numerous and varied types acts of venia (i.e. liturgical acts originally used in the sacred liturgy in the Dominican Rite, and recited in the liturgy of the Teutonic Order). These are acts both of penance and of making present the Lord’s Passion in the person of the one who undertakes this type of expiatory prayer of humiliation for the salvation of all, for the benefit of all humanity.
