Divine Providence and Chance in the World: Replies

In the paper, I reply to the objections contained in the other papers in this issue raised against my conception of providence and chance presented in the opening article and the book from 2014. I argue that the existence of variously understood random events (chance) does not imply the thesis that God, the Creator of the world is not interested in the fate of individual creatures, including human beings. The reason why God can permit random events to occur is God’s will to create a relatively autonomous world that has the ability to self-develop and self-create. In such a world, there may be pointless evil for which God is not directly responsible.

Pisarz zapomniany. Twórczość Zygmunta Krzyżanowskiego w kontekście czasopism literackich Związku Sowieckiego

The article presents the contacts of Sigizmund Krzhizhanovsky, a Russian writer of Polish origin, with literary magazines of the first decades of Soviet Russia. Krzhizhanovsky, as a representative of the avantgarde and the Polish nobleman, met with a politically motivated ban on printing. Most of his works were published for the first time only during the period of perestroika. Some of his smaller works, however, saw the light of day thanks to literary magazines. The aim of the article is to present the socio-political situation in which the writer found himself and to outline the balance of power prevailing in the literary life of the time.

In this article author claimed that thick journal and institution of literature award are very similar. Author described a history of thick journal in Russia and place occupied by this type of publishing in a modern Russian culture field. Regardless of the crisis of thick journal, many journal’s attributes are influent and use by literature awards. Author of the article things that Yasnaya Polyana Book Award is a good example showing this mechanism. As a consequence Yasnaya Polyana is using a journal’s features to create a new type of thick journal.

O współczesnych tendencjach krytyki literackiej. Próba opisu

Modern contemporary criticism undertakes new methods to create attractive and widely readable texts. The author of the hereby article attempts to identify innovative trends in Russian literary criticism texts published in prestigious magazines. Russian literary magazines are commonly regarded as the highest intellectual indicator of Russian culture. Nevertheless, recent texts published in literary magazines imply aggression, invectives and various linguistic elements typical for unprofessional critical discourse. Therefore, there appeared the need to analyse new ideas altering traditional literary criticism in literary magazines.
