The contribution deals with the need for development in the area of spatial awareness in technical education at the lower secondary level of elementary schools. The author made the research in all grades of an elementary school orientated on the spatial awareness and the ability to imaginary manipulate with objects. Based on the assessment of our research the author designs solution for support of development of spatial awareness in technical subjects.

Analiza tłumienia prędkości fali podłużnej w elemencie żelbetowym z zarysowaniem

This paper presents effect of cracks formation on the velocity of longitudinal acoustic waves in reinforced concrete element under load. Experiments were carried out on 120 × 300 × 6300 mm prefabricated beams. It was found, that formation of cracks causes attenuation of elastic wave (acoustic) velocity of over 50%. Hence, analysis of the elastic wave velocity can be used for structures diagnosis. Research will be carried out to develop non-destructive method for evaluation of technical state of reinforced concrete structures, which is based on the of longitudinal wave velocity.

Cultural Transplantation and Problems of Transferability

The article addresses the concept of ‘cultural transfer’ in terms of ‘cultural transplantation’ – a procedure to challenge the adaptability of practices, objects, and, more broadly, narratives of culture, as they become grafted from one ‘cultural body’ to another and function in different social and political contexts. Cultural transplantation is not a fixed term, although it is occasionally used in translation studies and is introduced here as a synonym for ‘cultural transfer’ to extend the meaning of the latter as well as to highlight the physicality of the processes discussed in the context of cultural transfer. The article exposes transferability as the main factor of transfer to analyse problems of cultural adoption and adaptation, showing deformations of globally practiced theories, concepts, discourses, and ideas (which I will call ‘texts of culture’) as they clash with (and crash against) local systems of meaning and local interpretative communities.

The Metaphor of Foreign Languages: ‘Geopolinguistics’ in Romanian Culture

Countries are typically defined as nation states permeated by a specific culture based on a language which acts as a carrier/guarantor of national identity. ‘A language is a culture’ seems the right equation to sum up the status of mother tongues and/or official languages. The equation, however, does not seem to extend to foreign languages (second- or third-languages learned by non-natives), which are generally regarded as ‘less culture’ than mother tongues, as merely ‘technical’ or professional tools, rather than shapers of (further) cultural identities within a nation. This article sets out to argue that, in the case of Romania, non-native language acquisition has been a cultural transfer in itself at least since the 17th century. The core hypothesis is that in Romania prevailing foreign language options have enabled cultural empowerment (e.g. mentality ‘updates’), implied geopolitical orientations (e.g. military alliances) and allowed for therapeutic solutions (to national psyche downsides).
