European nations may expect years of positive transformation in the next half of the second decade of the 21st century, just after decades of economic and social instability. Such transformation would involve social, political and structural changes stimulated by societies' deep motivation and well defined expectations with regard to social and health issues. In this new (and soon to come) era of transformation, fulfilment of superior goals should serve the unity of the EU as well as joint internal and external safety. While using the cohesion policy as a tool to achieve those goals, policymakers must take all those new conditions into consideration. Effective support by means of detailed and complementary regional programs/ projects is surely required. Based on the above, we have to once more interpret the definition of regionalization. We must also demonstrate new dimensions of regionalization in relation to the cohesion policy.

Public deliberation mechanisms play an important role in the process of the EU public policy making because they are to compensate the shortage of representative democracy. One of them is social consultation carried out mainly by the European Commission. The paper consists of the analysis of open public consultation role in designing and implementing the EU sector policies. Their growing importance and frequency of use with regard to the economic policy and its kinds is clearly visible. The aims of such consultations are various. They are primarily used as an instrument of legitimacy of decisions taken by the Commission as well as an important source of information about the stakeholders' opinions and stance. The case of social consultations concerning the transatlantic agreement TTIP is analysed here in detail due to the significance of social mass protests which used to occur and owing to the importance of the agreement for all the Europeans, they may also take place in the future.

Labor compliance serves as a menas of preventing labor rights violations. The labor compliance system, researched in this article, includes mechanisms of internal labor control (compulsory and voluntary). The article indicates the necessity of adopting a Law of Ukraine on labor compliance, which would provide the definition of labor compliance, state the purpose of introducing compliance control in a business organization, main tasks and the principles of functioning, the structure and composition of a compliance service at an external and internal level, the rights and obligations of comliance professionals, guarantees of their activities and the responsibility attached to their position. Expediency of introducing a compliance control department in organizations, enterprises and institutions is emphasized, with such department controling the subject at all levels, and also creating a position of a compliance specialist as a person acting in accordance with an established Compliance Program. Such measure will not only simplify the existence of organizations and enterprises, but will also significantly improve the quality of labor law. Therefore, it is believed that the theme of introducing labor compliance at enterprises and institutions is very relevant.

Nowadays, cooperation through the formation of International Strategic Alliances (ISAs) has become a key strategy for many firms that expand internationally. Trust among foreign partners and knowledge transfer are identified in the literature as crucial factors for satisfactory ISA performance. This paper extends previous research (Rotsios et al., 2018, 2019) on these two important parameters. Based on aspects from the Social Exchange Theory and the Resource Based View, we explore a) the perceived level of Greek managers’ trust towards their foreign partners, and b) the perceived level of the knowledge that Greek companies have acquired from their participation in ISAs. A quantitative approach is adopted, and through a questionnaire survey, a sample of 171 Greek ISAs operating in the region of South East Europe is examined. This study contributes to International Business (IB) literature and sheds light on trust and knowledge transfer in ISAs in an underresearched region. Furthermore, this research enhances the understanding on issues related to trust among ISA partners and knowledge transfer in ISAs. In addition, it contributes to the limited number of regional IB studies. Finally, the empirical findings are discussed and managerial implications are presented, while areas for further research are also proposed.

The main subject-matter of this paper is the political ontology of contemporary liberal democracies and the problems that the procedure of the formation of the body politic constitutes within this substantialist and individualistic ontology. By referring to Joseph Schumpeter's so-called realistic theory of democracy and the classic critique of the public sphere articulated by Walter Lippman, the author attempts to demonstrate the fundamental aporia that lurks within the democratic procedure of constructing what is public (the body politic) via public opinion, general elections and representative power, which in his opinion constitutes an element of greater governmentality of power, typical of a society of the West. To achieve this he confronts these now classic critiques of democracy (simultaneously constituting an argument in favour of its intensification and searching for promising routes of transformation) with Michel Foucaults conception of liberalism as a technology of managing that which is social. This reference enables democracy to be perceived as an element of the modern rationality of governing, the structure of which is based on the simultaneous controlling and moulding of the political entity the People. If the mechanism of power is located at a level constitutive for the political process, within sovereign political action, then it would seem that potential forms of resistance or political transformation are directed towards a kind of immanent change or transgression.

Stereotype accuracy is a contentious topic. Part of the problem is that typically stereotypes are generic statements whose truth status is unclear due to the fact that they are ill-defined quantitatively. The article focuses on the epistemic aspect of stereotypical beliefs. In the ongoing debate, I side with those who argue against stereotypes being wrong or inaccurate by virtue of definition alone. I propose that, when possible, stereotype accuracy should be assessed in probabilistic terms by inspecting how likely a generic statement is to be true when applied to individual(s) representative of the relevant group(s). This approach applies equally well to investigating the actual and the perceived accuracy of stereotypes.

The social responsibility of construction enterprises has become a focus of current academic and industry practice. As a pillar industry of the national economy, the construction industry is a huge driving force for economic development. As the main body of the construction industry, construction enterprises play a huge role in promoting urbanization, building new rural areas, and driving employment. However, the construction enterprises have also brought great negative effects to the society at the same time as the production activities. Therefore, while creating their own interests, construction enterprises must also take responsibility for the impact of their activities in the outside world. This study took managers and employees of construction enterprises as the research objects. Suggestions are put forward to provide real and effective countermeasures for construction enterprises to implement corporate social responsibility.

The purpose of this article is to introduce into scientific circulation one of the documents related to the history of the Old Believer colony in the Masurian Lakes in Poland. The field studies were conducted between 2011–2013, during the implementa-tion of the grant “Slavica a bizantyjskie dziedzictwo. Multimedialny katalog zabytków piśmiennictwa staroobrzędowców zamieszkałych w Polsce jako narzędzie odtwarzania fenomenów ginących kultur”. One of the families of hereditary old rituals presented a hand-written draft to researchers. Upon closer examination, it turned out that the manu-script was a separate sheet which, among other records, contains fragments of the five works of Archimandrite Paul (Prussia). Thus, it can be argued that in the middle of the 1930s, the identity of the former head of the monastery of the Life-Giving Trinity in Voinovo was still known to local residents and the Orthodox Church conducted anti-schism propaganda in the region with the help of his ideas.

The paper examines the labor market characteristics of the Hungarian communities in neighboring countries, taking into account the wider context of the Central and Eastern European region. In addition to the Eurostat and OECD Statistics our study is based on a representative survey, coordinated by the Research Institute for Hungarian Communities Abroad in the summer of 2018. A novelty in the analysis was that in addition to macro-level national data, we compared the situation of 2585 Hungarians, aged between 18–49 from Transylvania, South-Slovakia, Vojvodina, and Transcarpathia. The focus of the analysis was on the employment rate gaps and working hour differences of men and women, as well as mothers with small children. Beside the structural conditions we tried to reveal the effects of so-called “soft variables” (gender role attitudes, value structure) on labor market participation chances. The results showed that Hungarian minorities have a strong traditional perception of gender roles and, accordingly with a traditional division of labor, in which house chores and child-rearing tasks are typically a women’s responsibility, and which has a direct repercussion on their paid work. Thus, one of the key conclusions of the multivariate analysis is that the employment gap between women and men persists even if the effects of factors other than gender are kept under control. That is, gender ceteris paribus determines their labor market participation.

Non-territorial autonomy (NTA) incorporates a mixture of different arrangements such as consociationalism and national-cultural autonomy (NCA), and forms of representation that de-territorialize self-determination. The paper analyses NTA possibilities in reaching indigenous self-governance and reveals the dilemmas in the applicability of NTA for securing the right to self-determination of indigenous peoples. Although the practice points towards some positive examples and successes of NTA institutions related to ingenious peoples (e.g. Sámi Parliaments), the question remains whether NTA holds sufficient potential for addressing indigenous needs upheld by the international principle “right to land, territories and traditionally owned resources.”
