CHANGING THE STATE’S DISCOURSE ABOUT PUBLIC THEATRE INSTITUTIONS BY REDEFINING THE LANGUAGE OF LAW

CHANGING THE STATE’S DISCOURSE ABOUT PUBLIC THEATRE INSTITUTIONS BY REDEFINING THE LANGUAGE OF LAW

Author(s): Bogdán Zenkő / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2022

In this study we take a closer look at how the state refers to performing arts venues and their roles and attributions in Romanian society, through its official channel of expression – the law. The two chosen laws, OG 21/2007 and OUG 189/2008, define the purpose, structure and organisation of public performing arts institutions, the criteria for becoming their manager and the duties that must be performed in this position. Our research first reflects on the terminology of these laws, comparing it with the general vocabulary of the texts. Then, for each of the two sets of regulations, we illustrate their shortcomings from the point of view of theatre management, grouping them in six and four topics. We believe that it is necessary to sensitise the professional and civil community to what the word of law actually means, since we consider it important to take back our public spaces through language as well and start democratising public institutions also through discourse.

NON-FORMAL MANAGEMENT EDUCATION: SOME EVIDENCE FROM MANAGEMENT TRAINING BUSINESSES WEBSITES IN ESTONIA

Author(s): Maret Ahonen / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2012

Management education and MBA programs have been criticized for being rigor and having little effect on managerial performance, however little attention has been paid to management education provided by management training and development businesses often referred to as non-formal education providers. Since the studies on management training businesses are scarce, the exploratory study was conducted documenting the state of management training businesses’ activities in Estonia on the analysis of four focus issues: (1) the scope of training programs; (2) methods; (3) trainers and (4) organizational development. The data was collected from 26 management training businesses’ websites including 3 universities’ continuing education websites. The findings highlight the domination of soft skills, coaching as an increasingly used method, frequent use of contracted co-trainers and modest reflection of organizational development issues. The outcome contributes to the literature of management education, training and developing research providing preliminary insight on management training businesses activities. Additionally the results could be of practical use for HR managers in assessing overall capabilities of management training businesses.

THE IMPACT OF OPEN INNOVATION PRACTICES AND MODERATING EFFECT OF INTER-ORGANIZATIONAL NETWORKS ON INNOVATION PERFORMANCE OF LARGE FIRMS IN SRI LANKA

THE IMPACT OF OPEN INNOVATION PRACTICES AND MODERATING EFFECT OF INTER-ORGANIZATIONAL NETWORKS ON INNOVATION PERFORMANCE OF LARGE FIRMS IN SRI LANKA

Author(s): R.N. Weerasinghe / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2021

Innovation plays a prominent role in the contemporary world. It brings novel products and services to the market while exploring new ways of production, distribution, marketing and impacts all other aspects of organizations including human behaviour through hard as well as soft methods. Open innovation has been introduced as a new paradigm in innovation management. This study examines the impact of open innovation on innovation performance of the listed companies in Sri Lanka with the moderating effect of inter-organizational networks. Open innovation practices have been recognized in this study in two folds – as outside-in open innovation and inside-out open innovation Data were collected through a survey among 165 top-level managers of listed companies in Sri Lanka. The sample was selected using purposive and snowballing sampling methods. After testing the validity and the reliability of the instrument and collected data, simple regression analysis was conducted to test the hypotheses. The study findings indicate that both outside-in open innovation and inside-out open innovation positively and significantly impact innovation performance. Further, results show that inter-organization networks positively moderate the effect of both inside-out open innovation and outside-in open innovation on innovation performance.

DISPARITY IN THE EMPLOYMENT SPHERE: THE MEASUREMENT OF PAY GENDER DISPROPORTION

DISPARITY IN THE EMPLOYMENT SPHERE: THE MEASUREMENT OF PAY GENDER DISPROPORTION

Author(s): Tamila Arnania-Kepuladze / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2012

The labour price or the compensation for work as a fundamental basis of any working activity influences the labour market actors’ behaviour. The level and structure of pay along with labour costs are significant macro-economic indicators, which are widely used by different political, social and economic institutions to assess situation on the labour market and define labour market macroeconomic policy. A managerial theory and managerial practices considers the compensation for work as significant factor of job motivation.Today, when women play vital role in employment sphere the gender gap in the work reward still exists. The article considers the direct correlation between the gender pay disproportion and gender-gap-reasons-based disparity in the employment sphere. For the calculation and analysis of the pay gender disproportion the author introduces two indexes: the Index of Pay Gender Differentiation (PGD) and the Index of Pay Gender Gap (PGG). The Index of Pay Gender Differentiation (PGD) expresses not only the existing relation between men’s and women’s pay but defines the dynamics for their closing on. The using of the Pgd promotes to define the direction for attain of gender equality on the employment sphere and a priori assumes to overcome the source of gender inequality in the labour market. The Index of Pay Gender Gap (PGG) shows pay deviation from ideal gender pay equilibration.

THE EFFECT OF BRAND TRUST, BRAND SATISFACTION AND CUSTOMER VALUE ON CONSUMERS’ BRAND LOYALTY: IN THE CONTEXT OF AZERBAIJAN AND FOREIGN BRANDS

Author(s): Kamil Kuć / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2021

Businesses that determine the areas that customers are not satisfied with or that want to make their satisfied customers more satisfied are making a great effort for this. It is not possible for businesses to establish good relations with customers they cannot satisfy and to gain their loyalty. Accordingly, learning what customers want and fulfilling these requests in the best way has become an issue that businesses need to focus on. The aim of the research is to examine the effect of customer satisfaction on marketing in the service sector. In this direction, it was aimed to determine the dimensions of customer satisfaction and to examine the relationships between these dimensions. At the same time, it has been analyzed in detail how the dimensions of customer satisfaction differ according to the characteristics of the customers, which customer characteristics and to what extent the customer satisfaction dimensions are affected.

PROTOCOL FOR A SCOPING REVIEW ON THE CONCEPTUALIZATION OF COMPETITIVE INTELLIGENCE IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP LITERATURE

PROTOCOL FOR A SCOPING REVIEW ON THE CONCEPTUALIZATION OF COMPETITIVE INTELLIGENCE IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP LITERATURE

Author(s): Banji Rildwan Olaleye,Okechukwu Lawrence Emeagwali,Sunday A. Olasehinde,Taiwo O. Oladele,Christo G. Adelakun,Solomon O. Ebhoaye,Festus T. Solanke / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2021

Competitive intelligence is a crucial skill increasingly required of entrepreneurs across firms, since guidance to enterprises on this crucial skill has proven to be problematic over the years, owing primarily to a lack of unified understanding of its meaning as well as the erroneous use of the term interchangeably with other close but dissimilar concepts. This paper aims to establish a protocol for a scoping review of relevant literature, to map, compare and synthesize the disparate conceptualizations available and relative theoretical underpinnings, in a bid to systematically derive a more robust and comprehensive definition and terminology that accurately captures all facets of the competitive intelligence concept. This scoping review will follow the methodological recommendations first developed by Arksey and O’Malley, and subsequently refined by Levac and colleagues. A management practitioner as well as a local librarian will be involved in the development of the search strategy, and the search will be conducted in electronic databases (Web of Science, SCOPUS and EBSCO Business Complete). This scoping review will aid the design of upcoming studies on competitive intelligence using accurate, comprehensive and scientifically conceptualized and operationalized terminology.

IMPACT OF ECONOMIC CRISES ON FIRMS: A LITERATURE REVIEW

IMPACT OF ECONOMIC CRISES ON FIRMS: A LITERATURE REVIEW

Author(s): Joel Isabirye / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2021

This paper examines literature that analyzes how economic crises affect firms. Eighty-five studies were examined with the overall aim of finding out the impact of crises on firms. Studies published between 1805 and 2018 were sampled purposively through digital database searches, to establish the most recent literature on the impact of crises on firms. Consequently, the majority of the work assessed focuses on the global economic crisis of 2007 and its effect on firms in a different country and regional contexts. The literature demonstrates that economic crises affect firms negatively and positively with a tendency for crises to affect firms more negatively. Negative impacts include a decline in demand, fall in profitability, debt problems, operational challenges, bankruptcy, loss of goodwill or public image, uncertainty, and scale down of operations. Positive impacts comprise stimulation of efficiency, and improved performance for strategic firms The review further establishes that the impact of crises on firms varies from firm to firm, which requires that to examine the impacts of economic crises on firms requires that the firms are studied on a case-to-case basis.

RETHINKING BUSINESS PROCESS MAINTENANCE RELATED TO CORPORATE CULTURE

RETHINKING BUSINESS PROCESS MAINTENANCE RELATED TO CORPORATE CULTURE

Author(s): Ferenc Bognár,Zoltan Gaál / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2011

Nowadays disciplines of maintenance management are widely applicable in other fields of science as well. This paper shows the possible uses of maintenance strategies in connection with inter-corporate cooperation by determining the relations between procurer and supplier. The objective of the paper is to support the CEOs in describing the business processes maintenance system and its attributes in the company. The research is based on a survey attended by the CEOs of more than 260 companies from different operational fields in Hungary. The basic theory of the research is that the inner operations of a company are driven by the principles of some sort of maintenance strategies or a combination of those. Based on this theory the research answers the question of whether these companies can be integrated into clusters and how they can conclude the expectation systems of the members of a certain cluster towards the suppliers. The paper also shows which corporate culture types are more or less resistant to different failure types of the business processes such as misuse fault, manufacturing fault, systematic fault, etc.

MATRIX-BASED PROJECT PLANNING METHODS

MATRIX-BASED PROJECT PLANNING METHODS

Author(s): Zsolt Tibor Kosztyán,Judit Kiss / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2011

Network planning methods for project planning and scheduling have been applied for more than fifty years including CPM, PDM, PERT and GERT (Fondahl, 1961; Fulkerson, 1962; Kelley & Walker, 1959; PMI, 2006; Pritsker, 1966), which can be widely applied to project planning fromareas as diverse as construction and R&D. However, these network planning methods are not very appropriate in cases where IT, innovation or product development are involved. There are some shortcomings when using network planning methods for scheduling these kinds of projects, because these methods cannot handle the importance of the task realizations. They cannot solve the problem, when some tasks have to be left out from the project because of the constraints, or when the completion order of tasks can be different. In this paper new matrix-based project planning methods are introduced which illustrate how all possible solutions can be determined in two steps based on the Project Expert Matrix. Firstly those tasks are selected, which have to be or can be realized during the project. Afterwards the dependencies (the sequence of the chosen tasks) are determined taking the project constraints into account. The possible solutions can be ranked and the most probable solution can be chosen which can be realized within the given constraints. This method can be a useful tool for project managers as a part of an expert system.

SOME PROBLEMS WITH HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IN BULGARIAN TOURIST ORGANIZATIONS

SOME PROBLEMS WITH HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IN BULGARIAN TOURIST ORGANIZATIONS

Author(s): Viara Slavianska / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2011

The paper presents results from a study, conducted in the beginning of the year, with the purpose to determine how the human resource management function is realized in Bulgarian tourist organizations and specifically to identify possible problems. The study includes fifty accidentally chosen organizations from the hotel keeping branch, of approximately equal size (from three to five star hotels with over 200 employees). Consecutively are presented the practices, connected with basic activities, composing the human resource management, as well as summary results from the analysis given as recommendations for the management. It has established as a general conclusion that the practices connected with HRM in the investigated hotels, have some positive sides, but dominate the negative aspects that need an elaboration. The taking of actions directed towards improvement of HRM in these organizations is a consequence from the awareness that: 1) the quality of the tourist product in the hotel keeping is in direct dependence on the quality of the human resource, i.е. the policy for its management and 2) in the conditions of a global economic and financial crisis, not only the survival of the organizations but their prosperity as well, are connected mostly with identification and preservation of the quality part of their personnel.

EFFECTS OF FRINGE BENEFITS ON EMPLOYEES PRODUCTIVITY IN SELECTED FOOD AND BEVERAGES PRODUCTION COMPANIES IN OGUN STATE, NIGERIA

EFFECTS OF FRINGE BENEFITS ON EMPLOYEES PRODUCTIVITY IN SELECTED FOOD AND BEVERAGES PRODUCTION COMPANIES IN OGUN STATE, NIGERIA

Author(s): Kareem Alidu Olatunji,Lawal Musediq Olufemi,Rasaq Sheriff Omotayo / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2021

The study revealed that the provision of fringe benefits by the management of an organisation has positive roles to play in motivation of employees to higher productivity. It also defined the degree to which an employee identifies with the organization and wants to continue participating actively in it. Questionnaire was the major instrument adopted for this study, a total of 210 respondents were sampled from three food and beverages production organisations. Data generated through the questionnaires for the study were analysed making use of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The results showed that highly competitive fringe benefits have impetus for ensuring drastic reduction in labour turnover. Strong fringe benefits were therefore established to be correlated with employees’ motivation on the job, job satisfaction; job performance, employee retention and that proper workplace environment helps in reducing the rate of absentees. The study therefore submitted that application of fringe benefits facilitates effective productivity, while it was also discovered that employees’ involvement in organization activities contribute to organizational stability. The two hypotheses tested thus showed a significant relationship between employees’ involvement in policy formulation and implementation on individual productivity as well as organizational performance (F Statistic (17.65) P < 0.05 and sig. P < 0.05) and that a significant relationship exists between application of fringe benefits and individual productivity, as well as organizational performance (F Statistic (8.982) and sig. P < 0.05).

IMPACT OF ECONOMIC CRISES ON FIRMS: A LITERATURE REVIEW

IMPACT OF ECONOMIC CRISES ON FIRMS: A LITERATURE REVIEW

Author(s): Joel Isabirye / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2021

This paper analyzes how firms respond to emerging economic crises. A firm’s response to crisis is a mechanism for survival. It normally evolves out of the impact of the crisis, and it is linked to the strategic goals and operational objectives of the firm. Firms normally pursue one or more of three lines of responses to crises; retrenchment, investment and ambidextrous responses. Responses of firms to crisis are far from predictable or systematic and usually vary from firm to firm. They are predetermined by specific contexts of the firm’s existence. These contexts range from the firm’s size, ownership, sector of operation, history in business, c ountry dynamics and resource capabilities. There is also a tendency for firms to move from one type of response to another during the course of the crisis. Retrenchment is the most preferred form of response, although investment responses tend to have long-term advantages. The study recommends that firms consider ambidextrous responses to realize the synchronized benefits of retrenchment and investment responses to crises. It is also recommended that studies on firms’ responses to crisis should examine firms on a case-to-case basis, identify the particularities of their responses.

ESTIMATION OF COST MINIMIZATION OF GARMENTS SECTOR BY COBB-DOUGLAS PRODUCTION FUNCTION: BANGLADESH PERSPECTIVE

ESTIMATION OF COST MINIMIZATION OF GARMENTS SECTOR BY COBB-DOUGLAS PRODUCTION FUNCTION: BANGLADESH PERSPECTIVE

Author(s): Haradhan Kumar Mohajan / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2021

The Cobb-Douglas production function in the field of economics has a long history. In mathematical economics, it is used to find the functional relationship between the economic inputs and potential outputs. This study applies the Cobb-Douglas production function to predict the cost minimization policies of a running garments industry of Bangladesh. In the study, the effects of the variation rate of capital, labour and other inputs with returns to scale in the garments industry of Bangladesh are examined. In multivariable calculus, the method of Lagrange multiplier is a very useful and powerful technique. In this study, interpretation of Lagrange multiplier is given to predict the cost minimi- zation policy using Cobb-Douglas production function. An attempt has been taken here to show the production of garments in minimum by cost using statistical analysis.

A MAIN SOLUTION FOR PROBLEMS OF MANAGEMENT IN THE 22ND CENTURY

A MAIN SOLUTION FOR PROBLEMS OF MANAGEMENT IN THE 22ND CENTURY

Author(s): Mirko Pečarič / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2011

Article researches the capacity of national and supranational levels for the governing and managing of global problems. Consumerism and profit per se have brought the world into the collision with nature and people’s ability to cooperate with each other, disregarding their selfish and personal interests. Today’s inability to rule the world is shown in national interests: states still manage their affairs regardless of the interests of other states. Global problems are beyond that; better sooner than latter, one has to respond to Nietzsche’s question of managing the whole world with the formal proposition to strengthen the United Nations that is better than an arbitrary coalition of powerful states, other global power structures, or corporation elites. We should not wait for the new world war to bring more effective ways for solving global problems, because their current negative effects speak themselves in favour for the new global order. Paper is based on thoughts of great thinkers and favours the path to global constitution and federation of states, which could be possible to achieve if the UN will put democratic elements in most of its operations at first in its institutions.

O PRINOSIMA DRAGUTINA FELETARA GOSPODARSKOJ POVIJESTI (U POVODU 80. GODIŠNJICE ŽIVOTA)

Author(s): Hrvoje Petrić / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 17/2021

The article presents the activities of Dragutin Feletar related to economic history. One of the discussed segments is the development of enterprise research methodology in which a very important segment, in addition to industrial geography, was related to economic history. The article also presents how Feletar to a large extent viewed his regional synthesis of Podravina from the point of view of economic history, and he did the same in numerous articles and books about individual settlements. Regarding the relevance of individual books, the monograph of the Podravka company (1980) and numerous other books and articles should be singled out and divided into: a) Contributions to the history of banking (Varaždin, Koprivnica, Prva hrvatska štedionica (The first Croatian savings bank), etc.); b) Contributions to the history of industry - from the doctoral dissertation published as a book »Podravina Industry«, through articles on textile and wood industry in Međimurje, textile industry in Zabok and Zagreb, Sisak industry, Maribor, metal industry in Zagreb, wood industry Novska, food industry in Umag, almost all industries in Koprivnica, footwear and leather industry of the Varaždin region up to the definition of the development phases of the Zagreb industry and the periodization of the Croatian industry; c) Contributions to the history of mining (especially in the Podravina part of Bilogora); d) Contributions to communal activities and electrification (Komunalac and Elektra Koprivnica, history of electrification of northwestern Croatia); e) Contributions to printing industry (Međimurje, Koprivnica Podravina, Varaždin, Virje); f) Articles on guilds (Legrad, Koprivnica, Podravina, Donja Dubrava, etc.); d) Articles on cooperatives (Hlebine, Koprivnica Podravina, individual settlements); h) Articles on communications and trade (about the post office in Koprivnica, railways, old roads, rafting in Donja Dubrava, history of trade in Koprivnica).

COST MINIMIZATION IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF AN INDUSTRY: A MATHEMATICAL ECONOMIC MODEL APPROACH

COST MINIMIZATION IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF AN INDUSTRY: A MATHEMATICAL ECONOMIC MODEL APPROACH

Author(s): Lia Roy,Haradhan Kumar Mohajan,Rashed Molla / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2021

The method of Lagrange multiplier is a very useful and powerful technique in multivariable calculus. In this study, interpretation of Lagrange multiplier is given with satisfactory mathematical calculations and shows that its value is positive. For the sustainable development of an industry, cost minimization policy is crucial. In any industry, the main objective is to minimize production cost for maximizing its profit. By considering Lagrange multiplier technique application an attempt has been taken here in cost minimization problem subject to production function as an output constraint. To predict future performance of an industry, mathematical calculations are necessary and all the procedures are given in this paper with detail mathematical procedures. In this study, an attempt has been taken to minimize cost by considering three variables capital, labour, and other inputs of an industry by the application of economic models subject to a budget constraint, using Lagrange multiplier technique, as well as, using necessary and sufficient conditions for minimum value.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND FIRM FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIA: MEDIATING ON ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITY

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND FIRM FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIA: MEDIATING ON ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITY

Author(s): Oladipo Niyi Olaniyan,Alani Olusegun Efuntade,Olubunmi Omotayo Efuntade / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2021

The study examined the impact of corporate social responsibility on financial performance in Nigeria. The purpose of the study was to mediate the role of ethical social responsibility and its impact on the financial performance of the Nigerian manufacturing company. This study is predicated on the stakeholder theory, managerial theory, utilitarian theory and rational theory. Primary data sources were explored in presenting the facts of the situation. This paper investigates how the relationship between corporate social responsibility and employee performance affect the financial performance of manufacturing firms. The upshots of the analysis, using structural equation modelling on 150 completed questionnaires sent to the manufacturing companies in Nigeria, suggest that ethical social responsibility is significantly associated with the incorporation of corporate social responsibility through employee performance, which in turn has a significant and positive impact on financial performance. The results contribute to previous studies that have found reliable results on the direct association between ethical social responsibility and financial performance by demonstrating that employee performance acts as a mediator in the relationship between ethical social liabilities together with the financial performance of the corporation. Managers can strengthen their stakeholder relations and ultimately improve their financial performance if ethical social responsibility to stakeholders is integrated into business routines.

COMPENSATION MANAGEMENT AND EMPLOYEES’ JOB SATISFACTION AMONG STAFF OF CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA, LAGOS

Author(s): Isiaka K. Egbewole,Lateef Damilare Olusesi,Abdulmaleek O. Abdulazeez / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2021

The study investigated the compensation management and employees’ job satisfaction among staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lagos; it further examined the effect of wages and salaries on the bank’s staff job satisfaction. These were with a view to providing information on the impact of compensation on their job satisfaction. The research design adopted for this study was descriptive survey. The study population, 140, was randomly selected using Taro Yamane formula. The questionnaire was used to gather relevant data. The collected data was analyzed using regression analysis. The results showed that value of R square 53.4% of the variation in the dependent variable (wages and salaries) is explained by the independent variable (employees’ job satisfaction). The model is highly significant at F = 156.832, p = .000, which shows that it can be used to predict the outcome variable. The value of coefficient (β = 0.140) is significant and positive, showing that wages and salaries lead to increase in employees’ job satisfaction. The results also showed that value of R square – 75.3% of the variation in the dependent variable (direct and indirect) – is explained by the independent variable (employees’ job satisfaction). The model is highly significant at F = 417.091, p = .000, which indicates that it can be used to predict the outcome variable. The value of coefficient (β = 0.868) is significant and positive. The results of this study indicate a link between total compensation management and employees’ job satisfaction. The study concluded that awareness of the total compensation package of employees will help management to ensure that they create avenues for the employees to get abreast with the policies and compensation packages.
