The Jubilee International Scientific Conference on the "Economic Science, Education and the Real Economy: Development and Interactions in the Digital Age", held on 11 – 12 May 2020, is dedicated to the 100th anniversary оf the University of Economics-Varna. Against the background of the cultural and economic rise from the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XX century, on May 14, 1920 the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Varna decides to open a Higher School of Commerce in the city. This marks the beginning of higher economics education in the country. For the period of its existence the university has trained over 155,000 specialists with successful self-realization in the country and abroad. Today, more than 8,000 Bachelors, Masters and Doctorates from 52 countries study in 27 Bachelor's, 29 Master's and 16 Doctor‟s programs. One hundred years for a Bulgarian university is a remarkable anniversary. Some European universities have a much longer history, but when we give assessments, we must always consider the historical context. From this point of view and within the post-liberation period, 100 years of existence, for a Bulgarian university, is a remarkable achievement. The University of Economics – Varna is one of the oldest universities in Bulgaria and the university is rightly proud of its history. The Jubilee International Scientific Conference is focused on digitalization and all those profound transformations it causes in the economy and society. The theme of the conference has been chosen in the period preceding the outbreak of the global coronary virus pandemic. This is important to note because the current economic situation has changed dramatically. As a result of the state of emergency and the imposed social isolation, the economies all over the world have entered a recession. The business, our social and cultural lives have come to a standstill. The economic crisis that has begun is unprecedented both in its cause and most likely in its scale and scope, and it is currently confronting us with specific economic problems. But we believe in science and medicine, in the human mind and intelligence, and we have no doubt that the epidemic will be brought under control and sooner or later the world will return to normal. Then the fundamental determinants of economic activity shall start to operate, one of which is the ongoing process of digitalization. The present economic situation has confronted us with specific economic problems, but it has also shown in a clear and unequivocal way how important new technologies are in modern life, in particular in the conditions of emergency and social distance. It is in these conditions that all our communication, the opportunity for public institutions to continue with their work, online university and school education, etc. rest on digital technologies today. This conference has also been made possible by modern technology. The crisis, from a certain point of view, has given a new impetus to the digitalization of society. In the context of current events and the explanations given above, the topic of the conference is focused on the long-term development of the economy and society as a whole. The scientific event aroused considerable interest. The conference was attended by 340 scientists, researchers, lecturers, PhD students and students from 23 Bulgarian and 15 foreign universities and research organizations from Germany, Lebanon, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia and Ukraine, as well as representatives of business and various institutions. Plenary reports of the conference have been presented by: Prof. Evgeni Stanimirov PhD - Rector of the University of Economics – Varna, "Quo vadis, education?", Prof. Daniela Bobeva PhD, Institute for Economic Research at BAS, "Costs and Benfits of Euro Adoption in Bulgaria: lessons Learned from the Long Path of Bulgaria to the Euro' Mr. Plamen Rusev PhD, one of the successful alumni of the University of Economics-Varna, Executive Chairman of the Webit Foundation and a member of the Board of Directors of Endeavor Bulgaria, addressed the plenary session with a speech on "Bulgaria – a platform for creating global initiatives." The proceedings covers 263 reports, in 4 volumes. The range of problems in the reports is wide, in line with the idea of the scientific forum: to analyze the manifestation of digitalization not only in business and economy, but its social, institutional and legal aspects, as well. A very important part of the conference is the reports that examine the impact of digitalization on education and science.

WHEN BEING IN SOCIAL EXCLUSION RISK BECOMES RISKIER: SCHOOL OF SLIMNIC, VRANCEA, ROMANIA, IN PANDEMIC

Author(s): Dorina CROITORU,Ana GAVRILESCU / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

For the whole world, the COVID-19 pandemic is a risk situation. All domains of activity are certainly affected by isolation and social distancing measures. Each social field is differently affected, but the Education sector is facing major challenges for teachers, students and institutional managers. In Romania, school activities have been suspended starting 12 March and there is a possibility to reopen them in September. Until then, all activity has been transferred online. In our case study, we examined a school from a disadvantaged part of the country, which is included in a predefined project called “Sustainable social and educational integration through sports activities”. The project takes place at the National University of Physical Education and Sport, Bucharest, Romania, in partnership with the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. The objective of the project is to facilitate the educational and social integration of 2600 children at risk of social exclusion, selected from the 8 development regions of the country, through integrated activities based on sport. During school closure in the spring of 2020 (due to the COVID-19 pandemic), the situation for School no. 67, grades 5-8 (a sample that is in the project, mainly Roma population), is as follows: only 3 students have laptops, 2 students have personal computers, and 30 students have smartphones. Out of all 67, 35 communicate online, but 32 do not. The communication methods used for students with no online access include worksheets sent by regular mail, messages sent to keypad phones and talking using the landline."

Author(s): Lulzime Kamberi,Alina Andreea Dragoescu Urlica / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Recent developments in response to the Covid-19 pandemic have had a substantial impact on students, teachers and content delivery modes around the globe. This paper reports the efforts of the University of Tetovo (UT) in North Macedonia (NM) and Banat’s USAMVB University “King Michael I of Romania” to find rapid and efficient means of switching from direct to remote course delivery while maintaining effective communication. Acknowledging that little space was available for training teachers and learners to prepare for such rapid changes, this study examines how students responded. Applying exploratory research methods, the paper offers a preliminary analysis of the difficulties that learners faced in shifting to online presentation. Qualitative data was collected using student interviews and content analysis (Silverman, 2005) was applied to identify themes, biases and meaning. Convenience sampling among enrolled students in the academic year 2020/2021 at both universities identified a non-random sample of 16 students. The findings of the study revealed that participants faced many difficulties in their venture; however, using various strategies, effective planning and organization, they managed to a certain extent to overcome this situation.

The Evaluation of Distance Learning in Tourism Education in the Pandemic Process

The Evaluation of Distance Learning in Tourism Education in the Pandemic Process

Author(s): Nesrin Menemenci Bahcelerli / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The most important feature that distinguishes the tourism sector from many sectors is that it has a labor-intensive structure. Therefore, the knowledge and skills of those working in this sector are important for the competitiveness of businesses. In this direction, tourism education curricula are developed on a practical basis. During the pandemic, the functioning of the tourism industry has come to a complete halt, so education has been moved to digital platforms. In this process, many application-based courses were suspended and these courses were started to be carried out on digital platforms. The aim of this study is to evaluate the views of students who receive tourism education in the pandemic process towards distance learning. The action research technique, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. Action research is a method actively used by educators who take the role of researchers to systematically and scientifically obtain information and develop applications in various fields of education. The sample of the study consists of 24 students studying tourism in the 2020-2021 academic years. The research data were collected using a semi-structured interview technique. As a result of the research, while the students expressed positive opinions about distance learning, they stated that they lacked the application aspect, which is a necessity of tourism education. In addition, with the statements put forward, it is concluded that students improve themselves by participating in seminars and trainings with distance learning methods in many different countries in the pandemic process. Among the problems experienced, students stated that there is a lack of infrastructure.

The story as a possible solution to the problems faced by preschoolers and the adults around them represents the premise of using storytelling and digital storytelling at preschool age (and beyond). Recurring themes or particular contexts are exposed, through these techniques, anchoring fictional characters in fantastic worlds, mirroring the real plan. Ideas, feelings, character traits, elements of verbal, nonverbal and paraverbal expressiveness, as well as images/photos, animations, music, audio/video recordings, special effects, etc. facilitates the literacy of preschoolers, including in its digital version. The purpose of this paper is to relate these realities from the preschool universe, where through storytelling and digital storytelling, on the one hand, topics of interest are brought to the attention of children and, on the other hand, preschoolers exercise the role of active listener and even storyteller.

CĂTRE UN MODEL BAZAT PE SENZORI ÎN ANALIZA ÎNVĂȚĂRII

Author(s): Emilia Corbu / Language(s): Romanian Publication Year: 0

In context of pandemic crisis, the emergency remote teaching (ERT) process raised a multitude of problems for institutions, teachers, and students, led the author to design a model for evaluating teaching and evaluation processes. In our previous studies, we developed a model for the evaluation system called the learning analytics and evaluation model (LAEM). We also validated a software instrument we designed called the EvalMathI system, which is to be used in the evaluation system and was developed and tested during the pandemic. For optimization of the evaluation process was accomplished by including and integrating the dashboard model in a responsive panel. In this paper, we analyse the possibilities to complete our learning analytics system with a sensor-supported component. Also, we identify which sensor technologies can be used in a more suited manner. Sensor technologies have been adapted for various domains, such as healthcare, and education. The proposed model component can be used to represent the capabilities of current learning analytic system and provide a basis for the future development.

Theoretical and applied perspectives for the use of digital resources in youth education. The proposed study aims to carry out a complex and in-depth analysis of the learning model through digitalized education systems, input generated in the recognized teaching-evaluation methods, and represents a continuation of the research undertaken in the sphere of new educations, eloquently expressed by the use of technologies information and communication in the sphere of formal education. The objective pursued in the present study aims to analyze the use of digitalized interactive resources in the training and education of young people, under the conditions of the contemporary information society. Why interactive resources are important in the development of young people's skills and abilities, this is the working hypothesis considered in carrying out the proposed study. In the framework of the topic addressed, we considered a series of internationally recognized studies and researches, which present the effects produced by computerized technology systems on educational training both in the pre-university and in the university environment in our country. The working models presented, but also the individual research perspectives reflect, in fact, the new formative-adaptive challenges necessary for the configuration of a quality educational act, a fundamental component for ensuring a young generation, adapted to the demands of a society in perpetual change.

UKLJUČENOST INFORMACIJSKO I KOMUNIKACIJSKE TEHNOLOGIJE U ODRASTANJE DJECE RANE I PREDŠKOLSKE DOBI

Author(s): Edita Rogulj,Ana Tokić / Language(s): Croatian Publication Year: 0

Modern childhood strives for an interdisciplinary approach in which pedagogy is united with information and communications technologies (ICT). In the educational structure, early and preschool education lays the foundation for the academic development of everyone. That is why it is important to pay a lot of attention to the implementation of ICT from an early age. The field of digial pedagogy actualizes the issue of ICT influence on children and focuses on the development of digital literacy and digital competence. Child’s first contact with digital technology takes place in a family environment and continues in educational institutions. By creating the conditions for the development of children’s digital competencies, the foundations for digital institutional education are being created. Currently, institutions for early and preschool education do not have the needed infrastructure to take over the complete digital education so it still takes place in the family. Previous research shows the positive and negative impacts of ICT on a child’s development. Quality organization of time spent in front of digital devices prevents the occurrence of negative influences and amplifies the positive ones. Therefore, it is important to explore the frequency of using information and communications technologies by children while they are outside educational institutions. The aim of this research was to determine the frequency and purpose of using ICT by early and preschool age children and the involvement of parents in content selection, sharing ICT and development of digital literacy of their children. For the purposes of this paper quantitative research was conducted through an online questionnaire in which participated 250 parents of early and preschool age children. The results are showing a growing trend of children’s exposure to ICT from an early age, so it is important to create an environment that will contribute to the quality growth of present generations. The complexity of growing up in digital environment requires the maximum involvement of all stakeholders in creating the conditions and the right approach to the development of digital competencies.
