It finds the Turkish intervention beneficial if it stops another wave of refugees arriving in the EU.

The Influence of Gas Resources on Egyptian Policy in the Eastern Mediterranean

These aspirations are supported by the country’s LNG terminals, geographical location, and efforts by the EU to diversify its gas sources. Egypt’s energy cooperation with members of the emerged Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) will contribute to building regional trust. The EU may participate in a dialogue with the Forum on the use of existing infrastructure and constructing more for gas transport in the region.

The Republic of Ireland and the Risk of ‘No-Deal’ Brexit

Since the signing of the agreement with the EU on the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the Union, the Republic of Ireland’s policy towards Brexit has been seeking to defend the “backstop” mechanism. Despite Boris Johnson’s government toughening the UK’s position regarding this mechanism, the Republic of Ireland refuses to make concessions in this respect for reasons of domestic politics, hoping for the eventual ratification by the UK of the withdrawal agreement. The Irish policy is also based on the assumption of EU financial solidarity, which is not yet reflected, however, in the EU’s multiannual financial framework (MFF).

To counter this situation, the Chinese authorities introduced a stimulus package and halt some economic reforms. Although China’s economy is overall stable, the protracted dispute with the U.S. may exacerbate negative internal processes and further slow growth. This will affect the global economy, which in turn could lead to a decline in exports for companies from the EU. At the same time, China may be willing to widen its market to some investors.

W tej sytuacji chińskie władze zdecydowały się na wprowadzenie pakietu stymulacyjnego i wstrzymanie części reform. Choć gospodarka Chin jest stabilna, przedłużający się spór z USA może zaostrzyć zachodzące w niej negatywne zjawiska i dodatkowo osłabić tempo wzrostu. Odbije się to na gospodarce światowej, co dla firm z UE może oznaczać np. spadek eksportu. Jednocześnie może wzrosnąć gotowość Chin do szerszego otwarcia rynku dla inwestorów.

The UK Political Crisis as a Barrier to the Ratification of the Brexit Agreement

The European Council accepted an extension of the UK’s exit period from the EU until 31 October. The conditions, though, included no further negotiations on the Withdrawal Agreement (WA) by the EU and the UK’s commitment to participate in the European Parliament elections. At the same time, however, the political crisis in the UK has fundamentally limited the freedom of action of both the UK government and its two dominant parties. The scale of the British crisis was demonstrated by the local and European elections in May. Since the crisis probably will not be resolved by autumn, EU leaders are likely in October to face another decision concerning the further postponement of Brexit.

Warunki odroczenia objęły m.in. odmowę dalszych negocjacji ze strony UE oraz zobowiązanie Zjednoczonego Królestwa do udziału w wyborach do Parlamentu Europejskiego. W Wielkiej Brytanii postępuje kryzys polityczny zasadniczo ograniczający sprawczość rządu i obu największych partii. Powagę tego kryzysu ukazały majowe wybory samorządowe i europejskie. Ponieważ do jesieni br. nie zostanie on przezwyciężony, przywódcy UE najprawdopodobniej staną w październiku przed decyzją o ponownym odroczeniu daty brexitu.

Nieprzychylna wobec AP polityka USA wpłynęła na decyzję nowego rządu o bojkocie konferencji gospodarczej w Bahrajnie, planowanej jako reaktywacja procesu pokojowego. Napięcia między AP a USA i Izraelem zwiększają rolę dyplomacji unijnej.
