Author(s): Zeynep Zafer / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2022

Mefkure Mollova, known as a scholar in Turkology, was the first poetess to publish poems in the periodic print in Turkish language in Bulgaria and the only woman who was fortunate to issue a solo poetic collection (1964). She emerges as the most sensitive of the time, whose work boldly touches on the intimate corners of the Turk's mentality and emotionality, to questions and problems close to all women. The sophistication of her work excites young women and crumbles the walls of the traditional taboo. Her contemporaries are delighted with the talent of the beautiful poetess and the "freedom" of her speech, she is perceived as the Turkish Bagryana, almost all young Turkish intelligents were in love with her. Suffocated by the repression of the socialist dictatorship, she was forced to give up poetry. Her work is not known outside the circles of the Turkish readership of the 1950s and 1960s, and like most Turkspoets she remains unknown to the Bulgarian readership. The article also presents the first translations of her poems in Bulgarian.

THE RELIGIOUS THEMATIC IN THE PSALMS OF TUDOR ARGHEZI

THE RELIGIOUS THEMATIC IN THE PSALMS OF TUDOR ARGHEZI

Author(s): Nicoleta Gabriela Drogeanu (Stanca) / Language(s): English Issue: 38/2024

Critics have questioned Tudor Arghezi’s religious beliefs in what emerged as a controversy surrounding his Psalms, in an attempt to call into question his legitimacy to approach the word of God, in a sense to become a psalmist himself. To delegitimize Arghezi is, however, premature and a hasted conclusion. His conversion into psalmist, before judging it as an impiety, as some may be tempted to, is a mere attempt from his part to reconcile himself with his past, on the one hand and with where he stands before God, on the other. Doubt, even denial, have played a part in his life, as it sometimes plays in ours and playing the part of Doubting Thomas is proof of his inner struggle with regards to his faith.

TUDOR ARGHEZI AND HIS RELIGIOUS PREOCCUPATIONS AS A DEACON

TUDOR ARGHEZI AND HIS RELIGIOUS PREOCCUPATIONS AS A DEACON

Author(s): Nicoleta Gabriela Drogeanu (Stanca) / Language(s): English Issue: 38/2024

The religious preoccupations of Hierodeacon Joseph on a literary level were particularly rich, intertwining the intense study of the countless sleepless nights for which he was suspected of officiating black liturgies, with the fruitful writing, sometimes positive towards the Church, sometimes pietious, subversive, for purifying purpose at the clerical level, but his lyrics from this period began to attack philosophical and religious themes with a depth difficult to imagine, inspired by the teaching of the Orthodox Christian faith that he deepened during this period and which brings to all believers, not only to Arghezi, knowledge, the revelation of the truth, the penetration of the mysteries of the world and the acquisition of the grace of God that spiritualizes the bearer, makes him transparent to the Mysteries of God, helps him to see the beauty of His creation and especially of Him, Tri-Personal, responsibility for the personal weaknesses that throw us into darkness, assuming creation with all the richness and diversity given by God and our ascension together with it, gathered in our being, to the Creator of all and our Almighty in eternity.

Dana Gioia. Christianity and Poetry. Wiseblood Books, 2024

Author(s): Roxana Elena Doncu / Language(s): English Issue: 42/2024

An internationally acclaimed poet, California's Poet Laureate (2015-2018) and one of the most influential critical figures in American letters today, Dana Gioia has authored six poetry volumes, including Interrogations at Noon (2001), the winner of the American Book Award and three books of criticism which look at poetry from unexpected angles. His seminal essay “Can Poetry Matter?” has made both critics and readers aware of the relationship between poetry and music, on the one hand, and poetry and narrative, on the other. In his latest, Christianity and Poetry, the complex (and not always apparent) relationships between the art of poetry and Christian faith come under critical scrutiny.

Poezia începuturilor sacre

Poezia începuturilor sacre

Author(s): Oxana Gherman / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 2 (323)/2024

The article researches the poetic expressions of childhood in the texts of some contemporary Bessarabian authors, exponents of various creative generations (Irina Nechit, Andrei Țurcanu, Nicolae Popa, Artiom Oleacu, Artur Cojocaru, Ana Donțu). The author proposes a hermeneutic approach to poetic texts understood through the prism of Mircea Eliade’s conception of sacred time. Caused by the impulse of a nostalgia for the origins, similar to that experienced by the religious man towards the paradisiac preexistence, the act of recalling childhood restructures the image of reality. Poetic creation becomes, in this sense, a way of imaginary reanimation of the individual past with a refreshing impact on the traumas of consciousness, and an active mediator of the processes of representing the world and shaping the personal identity.

O poveste arhetipală de dragoste în eposul nuvelistic (în baza jurnalului oral)

O poveste arhetipală de dragoste în eposul nuvelistic (în baza jurnalului oral)

Author(s): Tatiana Butnaru / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 2 (323)/2024

In this article, we propose for analysis and interpretation a ballad text with a wide sphere of circulation in the ethnological context of Bessarabia. It is about a balladoral diary, where an archetypal love story is foreshadowed in correlation with a series of peculiarities and defining features of the novelistic epic, having filiations with the narrative structures in the field of family life, but at the same time, and some affinities with the popular epic of a new type. The subject of the drama of a young woman shot due to unpredictable conditions, circulates both in verse and in prose, where the narrator in the pose of a “referent” is called upon to communicate a complexity of feelings, experiences, borderline existential situations, condensed in a real history, oriented towards revealing existential representations, which goes beyond the legendary framework of the narrated facts. In this order of ideas, the epic narrative leans towards an actant and functional model, in order to determine the relationships between lovers, husbands, parents and children.

From the Geographical Dimension to the Ecological Perspective in Pasolini’s Literature and Film

Author(s): Georgios Katsantonis / Language(s): English Issue: 47/2024

The environmental aspects in Pasolini’s work go far beyond Pasolini’s famous L’articolo delle lucciole (Firefly Article) (1975). These aspects take shape, above all, in his interest in the transformation of the space, that is of the Italian environment controlled by a new, permissive fascism, a power without a face that is the worst kind of totalitarianism. The poet and writer focuses on the period of the so-called economic boom, which hit Italy after World War II. This article examines the potential contributions of Pasolini's intellectual agenda to contemporary ecocritical thought, built on the analysis of Pasolini’s selected works between literary writing and writing for the cinema. The objectives of this contribution include the possibility of a new reading of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s poetry, literature, and cinema under an ecocritical light, which presupposes an evaluation of his work that takes into account the relationship which the author determines between the individual of his own time and the surrounding environment, redefining the balance between literature and landscape.

Putting Bodies to Work – Bodies of Texts and Bodies of Readers Operating at a Whopping 75 Horsepower

Author(s): Anca Chiorean / Language(s): English Issue: 47/2024

The present paper focuses on a targeted occurrence within the larger area of modern literature – namely the 75 HP magazine. The literary-visual occurrence under scrutiny opens two possible approaches. The bodies of text present in the magazine either employ somewhat conventional grammar that embodies the spirit of unconventionality through the typographical dimension, or language that compiles almost entirely visual compositions, that involve the body of the reader to physically follow the new means of reading.

ГАНЕВИОТ МАКЕДОНИЗАМ (по повод 95-годишнината од раѓањето на Гане Тодоровски)

Author(s): Valentina Mironska Hristovska / Language(s): Macedonian Issue: 84/2024

The name of academician Gane Todorovski is deeply rooted in Macedonian poetry, Macedonian literary criticism and Macedonian culture in general. Poet, scientist in several areas: literary history, folklore, linguistics, essayist, translator – who enchanted lyrics with a touch of Macedonia, anthologist, subeditor and editor of a series of magazines, theatrologist, bard of cultural events in Macedonia. He is the founder, that is, his name is at the forefront of modern Macedonian poetry, Macedonian literary history and Macedonian criticism. His oeuvre is composed of thousands of pages, hundreds of titles and more than 300 publications which represent signals and guidelines leading to our self-discovery, self-esteem, self-exploration and perpetuation. Todorovski wrote without reservation, for him there were no taboos, eligible and ineligible people, but only people we should learn from what to be and not to be in order to be Macedonian. He had two homelands: literature and Macedonia. Gane Todorovski has been the ultimate seeker of Macedonian truth, endurance, rectitude, a champion of promoting Macedonian literature and history, of respect for Macedonian culture and protection of national Macedonian identity.

ТВОРЕЧКИОТ ИМПУЛС НА РАЈКО ЖИНЗИФОВ (по повод 185 години од неговото раѓање)

Author(s): Valentina Mironska Hristovska / Language(s): Macedonian Issue: 84/2024

Rajko Zhinzifov is a member of the generation of intellectuals who, in the 19th century, made an impact and took part in the radical changes that took place in the social, political, economic, and literary, i.e., cultural plan in Macedonia. His work is the beginning of modern trends in Macedonian culture, or rather he made a rich contribution to the development of poetry - he is a representative of romanticism, and with the poem “Garvan” (1862) we can mark him as a harbinger of symbolism in Macedonian poetry; then in journalism – he appears as the first biographer of the Miladinov brothers; author of the first artistic short story; with attempts also in lexicography; essay writing; he also contributed to folklore and historiography; and as a polyglot in the translation activity.

American justice-a new oxymoron

American justice-a new oxymoron

Author(s): Samuel A. Nigro / Language(s): English Issue: Sp. Iss. 1/2015

Justice is contradicted when one’s government over criminalizes and over-incarcerates as part of its regimented Soviet-like over-control and plunder of allegedly freeborn citizens. The government is filled with malicious vigilantes masquerading as promoters of the common good when, in reality, they only promote what valueless virtue-less liberal looney editors have managed to manipulate the people into behaving like Pavlovian dogs converting their own minds into the un-Natural. Basically, excepting most in the military, the emotion of being in government law is a grandiose abuse of the great American propaganda of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all. As a Great Course on evil once stated that government “law does not care about truth or justice but legalisms.” Thus, “American Justice” is an oxymoron.
