Summary/Abstract: An internationally acclaimed poet, California's Poet Laureate (2015-2018) and one of the most influential critical figures in American letters today, Dana Gioia has authored six poetry volumes, including Interrogations at Noon (2001), the winner of the American Book Award and three books of criticism which look at poetry from unexpected angles. His seminal essay “Can Poetry Matter?” has made both critics and readers aware of the relationship between poetry and music, on the one hand, and poetry and narrative, on the other. In his latest, Christianity and Poetry, the complex (and not always apparent) relationships between the art of poetry and Christian faith come under critical scrutiny.
