Teaching the Speaking Skill through George Orwell’s Animal Farm
This article aims to show how George Orwell’s dystopian animal fable and roman àclef Animal Farm can be used at seminar classes for teaching speaking. When usingauthentic texts to work on, students benefit more than when they are exposed toartificial texts of textbooks. They can be provoked to discuss the novella, to role playit, and to participate in various communicative activities that approach them to reallifecommunication. The article presents a number of such communicative activitiesbased on excerpts from the respective book.
