The author identifies interrelations between certain elements of Maryla Laurent’s biography and her professional activities, paying special attention to her views of translation. The starting point is the perception of the translator as an entity able to be reflexive about his or her translation choices. At the current stage of translation research, the translator’s status as a subjective element in the translation process does not need any additional recognition. The previous theories have sought to maximise the objectivity of the evaluation of the translator’s decisions by describing them in terms of linguistics or translation reception. This presumed ‘neutrality’ fails to account for the reasons behind translation decisions. Their completion is only guaranteed by viewing the translator from a humanistic perspective: not as an abstract conceptual category, but as an individual personality. Various factors (life experience, acquired knowledge) help build up the translator’s linguistic and cultural sensitivity. Consequently, they shape the translator’s interpretation of the original and the way in which they themselves write a foreign text in the act of translation.

The proposed article is dedicated to the literary theorist, methodologist, teacher Prof. Alexander Panov. The text examines part of his scientific production, with the main focus being on his latest book “Yordan Yovkov – the art of storytelling”, which examines in a theoretical aspect the latest theoretical positions related to narratology. Some of his analyzes Prof. Al. Panov offered to the magazine “Bulgarian Language and Literature” – “Albena”, “Indje” – so the basis of the book was already laid in the main methodical edition. Emphasis is placed on genre purity, which the researcher insists on, and the theoretical statement that the reader is an active figure in the act of reception, a part of the communicative process creating the literary work, is followed. The main problem is dialogicity, which must be achieved and the feeling of relative freedom in this communication in order for it to become co-communication and co-existence.

This paper presents a good practice for modern scientific collaboration: the foundation of the Bulgarian Association of Scientific Historical Journals in November 2022 with the participation of eight Bulgarian scientific journals in the field of history, indexed in Scopus and/or Web of Science. These journals are presented in the paper. The objectives of the association, aimed at boosting scientific ethics and at better editorial activity of the editorial boards, are also outlined. The humanities have their specificities, different from those of the natural sciences, mathematics or medicine, which necessitates not competition, but cooperation between scientific journals in this field, published in a country or region.
