DJELOVANJE SPREMNOSTI OPRAŠTANJA DRUGIMA NA MENTALNO ZDRAVLJE

Author(s): Almira Isić-Imamović / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 96/2023

Forgiveness as a phenomenon is a subject of the research work of many psychologists for the past thirty years. It is a very complex phenomenon that affects cognitive, behavioural, conative, and interpersonal components. There is a large number of theories of forgiveness, however, one of those theories states that forgiveness is a pro-social change in thoughts, feelings, and behaviour of the offended towards the offender. Psychologists analysed and found numerous psychological determinants of forgiveness and, established that forgiveness has a positive effect on one’s mental health. Furthermore, they explain that it reduces anxiety, and depression alleviates the symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder, and helps build positive self-esteem and hope thus improving the overall quality of life. These results have encouraged psychologists to create therapy models and techniques that are based on teaching patients how to forgive.

IBN AŠUROVO DJELOVANJE NA REFORMI ISLAMSKOG OBRAZOVANJA

Author(s): Abdusamed Podojak / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 97/2024

The contemporary world demands continuous revision, adaptation and changes in the educational system. Along with this it also requires amendments in methodology, curriculum and textbooks with the purpose of achieving quality preparation of students for the requirements of the time. Unfortunately, the Muslim world and Islamic educational institutions at the beginning of the 20th century were late with these reforms. In this article, we present a comprehensive reform of Islamic education initiated by a scholar and a reformist, rector of Az–Zitouna University, Muhammad al-Tahir ibn Ashur. Through a historical review of Islamic education, he tried to find the causes of the stagnation in the field of education and also to offer solutions regarding its reform. His ideas and suggestions are still very applicable since we still have a scope for improvement of the Islamic education system which should be flexible in its response to the requirements of the time rather than persisting as a relic of the past.

Basra Mu‘tezilesine Göre Seslerin Oluşumu

Basra Mu‘tezilesine Göre Seslerin Oluşumu

Author(s): Zeynep Şeker / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 2/2023

One of the prevalent inference methods the mutakallimūn uses is qiyās al-ghaib ‘ala al-shahid (analogy from the visible world to the invisible world). Mu‘tazila, who accepts this method as an absolute criterion in the divine attributes, rejects the possibility of difference between shahid and ghaib about the reality of attributes. By rejecting the concept of kalām nafsī adopted by Ahl alSunnah, they mention the divine speech in the category of actual attributes and claim that kalāmullāh (God’s speech), like human speech, is an accident consisting of words and sounds. Mu‘tazila, who defines mutakallim as the agent of kalām, claims that God is also the agent of the word. In this regard, Mu‘tazila, who defends the origin of the kalāmullāh and the createdness of the Qur’ān, focuses on the explanation of the nature of the kalām at the beginning of these theological subjects. As an extension of the issue of whether the ḥikāyah and maḥkī are the same or not, which is the subject of discussion in the context of the possibility of creating something similar to the Qur’ān, Mu‘tazila, who disagree on whether kalām (word) is a kind of sound (ṣawt) or not, examine the problem of the nature of the word by expanding it to include sounds. Although they agree that sounds are accidents created by humans through tawlīd, they propound different theories about the physical formation of sound and kalām. These theories are differentiated according to discussions about the essential factors for the formation of sounds. Some scholars claim that i‘timād generates sounds, and the substrate (maḥall) is enough to form the sounds. In contrast, others claim the necessity of a specific structure (binya), movement (ḥaraka), and air added to the substrate. In this regard, this study will deal with the effect of these factors mentioned above to the formation of the sounds and the physical examples which every group mentioned to prove its opinions rightfulness. The most detailed explanations about this topic are seen in the works of Baṣrian Mu‘tazila. Therefore, this study will examine the opinions about the production of sounds, which argued around metaphysical issues in the context of the createdness of the Qur’ān and the attribute of kalām, which are submitted by Abū ‘Alī al-Jubbā'ī (d. 303/916), Abū Hāshim al-Jubbā'ī (d. 321/933), and their followers Qāḍī ‘Abd al-Jabbār (d. 415/1025), Abū Rashīd al-Nīsābūrī (d. first half of the 5./11. century), and Ibn Mattawayh (d. first half of the 5./11. century), the representatives of Baṣrian Mu‘tazila, who adopt atomic universe understanding. The study aimed to form an opinion about the theologians’ way of discussing a particular physical phenomenon to constitute a basis for solving metaphysical problems. To clarify the problem, first, it will deal with the essence of sounds in the Baṣrian Mu‘tazilites tradition, and then it will tackle the discussions about the formation of the sounds.

Author(s): Mustafa Bülent Dadaş / Language(s): Arabic Issue: 1/2024

The European Council for Fatwa is a scholarly institution comprising a number of distinguished scholars, the majority of whom are based in the West. These scholars are familiar with both the Shari'ah evidences and associated problems. The Council was established in 1997 under the chairmanship of Yusuf al-Qaradawi (1926-2022). Since then, the Council addressed significant jurisprudential issues, particularly those pertaining to Muslims residing in the West and markedly distinct from the challenges observed in Muslim-majority countries. Its resolutions and fatwas have served as a reference point for both Muslims residing in these countries and other Muslims confronting analogous challenges. Moreover, the Council has emerged as a prominent scholarly authority on Islamic jurisprudence. Since its establishment, numerous studies have been conducted in various languages, including academic studies, on the structure of the Council and the fatwa method it follows in the context of general or specific issues such as transactions. At the meeting Istanbul in 2023, the Council devoted a significant portion of the proceedings to a comprehensive review of its activities and the criticisms directed against it. The meeting also saw the presentation of numerous papers that evaluated the Council from a variety of perspectives. To serve the same purpose, this study has been written to critically evaluate the method followed by the Council in issuing its fatwas in the context of the rules of fiqh and fatwa procedure. The evaluation is limited to the conditions of scientific competence and justice required of the mufti for a fatwa to be considered valid. In this context, an introduction was provided regarding the contribution of the fiqh councils to the science of fiqh. This was followed by a brief overview of the Council, highlighting its distinctive features and the ways in which it differs from other fiqh councils, particularly in terms of its approach to the field of "minority fiqh". The conditions necessary for the acceptance of a fatwa are analysed and explained by relying on well-known books of Islamic methodology. The compliance of the fatwas and decisions issued by the Council with these rules is discussed. In order to enable comparison with other fiqh Councils, the decisions and fatwas issued by them are also included. The study concluded that the Council did not comply with the rules of fatwa procedure set as a criterion, as it did not announced by whom the decisions and fatwas were issued. Furthermore, it was concluded that other fiqh councils were similarly overwhelmed with this problem. The study concludes with some recommendations for the solution of the problems identified. It is hoped that the study will contribute to the field by providing measures to guide the fatwa institutions in carrying out its activity within the framework of the fatwa process. In addition, it is hoped that it will raise awareness among researchers and muftis who act on, make use of in their studies or issue fatwas based on the decisions and fatwas of institutions, whatever they are called, in general, and of the European Council for Fatwa in particular.

Halk İnançları Bağlamında Kelâm İlminin Güncellenmesi

Author(s): Ethem Karaçoban / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 6/2024

The subject matter of Kalām has evolved throughout history, with certain aspects added to its topics in accordance with the needs of the time. As a matter of fact, while the subject of Kalām initially consisted of subjects such as the unity and attributes of Allah, takfir and destiny, as a result of the articulations, everything known was included in the subject of Kalām. The unchanging subject of Kalām is the basic principles of belief. The sciences used to explain or defend these basic principles may vary over time. In today’s context, in line with these approaches, the social dimension of Kalām is discussed by stating that Kalām is of interest to the individual due to many interests, beliefs, attitudes and behaviors. One of the issues discussed in this context is folk beliefs that can be seen in every geography of the world and among people of all levels. Although folk beliefs date back to ancient times, their scientific study can be considered new. Folk beliefs are predominantly studied by social scientists today. These beliefs have mostly been examined in terms of their cultural heritage or their psychological and sociological effects on individuals. Since Muslim scholars did not pay enough attention to the field in question, the theological dimension of the subject was generally not evaluated in these studies. Moreover, a significant part of folk beliefs has a structure that cannot directly or indirectly coexist with the belief principles of divine religions. Because of these features, folk beliefs will be the subject of Kalām as long as they are an act or thought of people. The fact that a belief or behavior is based on superstition or is unscientific does not exclude it from the realm of Kalām. Sometimes it even increases the importance that should be given to it and brings it to the top of the agenda. As it is known, folk beliefs are a very broad concept in terms of content. It is possible to encounter folk beliefs in almost every aspect of life, such as weather, fine arts, aesthetics, and literature. This article will mainly focus on living folk beliefs with a theological dimension. Such beliefs, which hold significant importance in people's daily lives, sometimes overshadow the original creeds of religions. Those who do not act according to these beliefs may be considered deficient from a religious perspective and may even be accused of apostasy. In the study, after focusing on some definitions for folk beliefs, the relevance of these beliefs to the science of Kalām will be mentioned.

Author(s): Yusuff Jelili Amuda,Sanaa Elshaarawy / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2024

Predominant poverty has affected many households in Nigeria and little focus of attention is given to the utilization of Islamic financial instruments in addressing the challenges of poverty and sustainable household in the country. The study attempts to fill the gap in the existing literature concerning the utilization of Islamic financial instruments for poverty reduction and sustainable households in the country. Qualitative research method with an emphasis on critical content analysis was utilized. Materials or different sources were used whereby journals, online peer review, and library sources were considered for in-depth analysis of Islamic financial instruments for poverty reduction and sustainable households in attaining vision 2030 in the country. Adequate implementations of various Islamic financial instruments that would create room for inclusion through which low-income families or families in poverty would experience sus-tainable standard of living through an efficient Islamic financial instrument for their empowerment. Hence, it will ex-pand the scope and understanding of Islamic financial instruments in the context of Nigeria. In so doing, there would be basis for restructuring the economic conditions of households experiencing an abject poverty by ensuring that their liv-ing conditions are improved for better. An emphasis on the judicious utilization of Islamic financial instruments espe-cially towards sustainable households in the country is an integral part of expanding the understanding about the effi-ciency of Islamic financial instruments in the society. Central bank of Nigeria has issued a drafted framework for ap-plication of Islamic financial instruments and operation of Islamic banking system and less attention is given to the ap-plication of Islamic financial instruments in the country. This paper therefore has tried to provide explanation for the application of utilizing Islamic financial instruments for poverty reduction and sustainable households in the country.

Yusuf Al-Qaraḍāwī's Theory of Zakat and Taxes and Its Relevance to Zakat and Taxation Law in Indonesia

Yusuf Al-Qaraḍāwī's Theory of Zakat and Taxes and Its Relevance to Zakat and Taxation Law in Indonesia

Author(s): Jamal Abdul Aziz,Muhammad Sirajuddin Qahtan Hamdan,Ahmad Dahlan,Kiky Aprianto / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2024

This article aims to discuss Yūsuf al-Qaraḍāwī, one of the contemporary scholars whose thinking is considered moderate but progressive, especially regarding social reality. However, in this paper the focus of the study is on his views on zakat.Using descriptive qualitative methods based on reference data written by Yūsuf al-Qaraḍāwī, the following views were found; (1) ambiguity in placing zakat as 'ibāda (ritual worship) or 'āda/mu'āmala (general transaction); (2) zakat is separated from its historical and socio-political context; and (3) zakat must be different from tax.In this article, it is found that Yūsuf al-Qaraḍāwī's view of zakat is dominated by theological interpretation, namely zakat as 'ibāda, so it is less dynamic when aligned with the taxation context. The sociological interpretation of zakat as the origin of taxation among Muslims tends to be ignored. His enthusiasm for differentiating zakat and taxes makes him less consistent in drawing out the common thread between zakat and taxes. However, there is something unique, Yūsuf al-Qaraḍāwī's thoughts regarding zakat have become a reference for many zakat and endowment institutions in Indonesia.

This research aims to study the book "Al-Siraj Al-Wahhaj fi Qissat Al-Isra wa Al-Mi'raj" by its author Abu Al-Abbas Shahab Al-Din Al-Qalyubi. The study includes content from page [53/b] to [54/a], which outlines the third ascension represented by the meeting of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with Joseph the Just, the eleventh son of Jacob. He is described as having beauty and grace, being one of the most renowned figures in the Quran and the Torah. The author also mentioned occasions of his meeting in the third heaven, corresponding to events in the third year of Hijra, including: the conspiracy of his brothers against him and his being thrown into the well, which parallels the Quraysh's conspiracy to kill the Messenger and throw him into a pit. I relied on the methodology of scholars specialized in this field for the investigation, and may Allah grant us success in presenting it in a satisfactory and acceptable manner.

The Influence of Islamic Religious Education Based on Religious Moderation and National Defence on the Nationalism of Students

Author(s): Achmad Solechan,Muhammad Luthfi Zuhdi,Muhammad Syauqillah / Language(s): English Issue: 6/2024

Realizing the rise in cases of intolerance in the academic world, various approaches to handling intolerant-violent and radical acts in the name of Islam are always being pursued. One of these approaches is a deradicalization program through religious moderation education in Islamic Religious Education. One of the deradicalization programs through religious moderation education in Islamic Religious Education is implemented by the University of Indonesia (UI). The University of Indonesia (UI) has made learning Islamic Religious Education based on religious moderation a mandatory subject for new UI Muslim students in the first semester and includes Islamic Religious Education based on religious moderation in the Personality Development Course (MPK) group. By using descriptive research methods with a quantitative approach, the author found that the data analysis that the author carried out showed that rcount 0.58 > rtable 0.1966 with an error level of 0.05 and a total of N=100. Interpretation of the level of relationship to the correlation coefficient of these two variables shows that there is a significant influence from learning Islamic Religious Education based on religious moderation and national defense on the nationalism of Indonesian university students in 2022.

Abortion in Islam: A Fiqh Examination of Medical and Social Indications

Abortion in Islam: A Fiqh Examination of Medical and Social Indications

Author(s): Muhammad Faisal Hamdani,- Ishaq / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2024

This article aims to explore how principles of Islamic fiqh can be integrated with modern medical approaches in addressing abortion, particularly in countries with significant Muslim populations. Given the high rates of unwanted pregnancies and the grave consequences of unsafe abortions, this research is imperative to enhance understanding of the diverse fiqh perspectives regarding medical and social justifications for abortion. The methodology employed is a phenomenological qualitative approach with a constructivist paradigm, emphasising a deep comprehension of the subjective experiences and viewpoints of Islamic scholars. Data was collected through extensive literature review, including classical and contemporary fiqh texts as well as academic literature related to medical ethics in Islam. The findings reveal various interpretations of Quranic verses relevant to abortion, underscoring the importance of preserving life and human dignity. Within the context of Maqasid Shariah, it was found that abortion could be permitted in situations meeting the criteria of Darura, where the preservation of the mother's life is the paramount concern. Social phenomena related to abortion were also examined, highlighting the stigma and social consequences faced by women in Muslim communities who undergo or consider abortion. The discussion in this article includes the integration of religious law and medical practice, and the need for greater education and awareness about reproductive health within Muslim communities. This allows the research to provide clear guidelines that not only assist healthcare practitioners in making ethical decisions but also support the creation of more effective and empathetic policies that consider the health and well-being of women within a framework of human rights and social justice.
